Quick!! Change the colour so we can make a few more PS3 sales before the 20th comes around.
Does it really matter whether people call it current gen, next gen, Gen 4...?
You can see where the confusion comes though can't you?
The hardware of the Wii U is close to that of the 360 and PS3 current gen systems.
But then it's being released within a year of the two consoles that have hardware representative of a next gen machine.
Like the Wii was close to Gamecube, PS2 and XBox. But launched alongside the PS3 and 360
"I didn't buy an Xbox and then express the desire for Uncharted to come to it. No. I bought a PS3 for that. It's really insulting how much people who think they are gamers hate on Nintendo the way they do. I pity them, because that reluctance to really give Nintendo hardware a go"
Why do you need to give Nintendo hardware a go?
Nintendo hardware is f**king sh*t.
When I was a boy it was fantastic!! NES, SNES, N64, even the Gamecube. All that w...
I didn't disagree with you, but I would've preferred more of that ram allocated to game assets as opposed to OS.
1Gb ram for games is only double the current gen machines.
I'm sure nintendo know what they are doing though and Zelda will look great when it ships.
We might get a decent looking Metroid too.
I imagine it has something to do with the second screen too. Handling inventory etc then swapping assets on the main screen across to the controller.
Then it can also browse the internet while in game. Then there's the twitter feed like connectivity to your friends.
It all sounds really good.
Although part of me wishes that 1.5G was for game assets and they were only using 500Mg for the OS.
The Wii U appears to be around twice as powerful as a curr...
"Sony says that these lists only include the games that can be listed as of September 4...."
...because they're going to reveal the PS4 and launch titles!!
Well, here's hoping anyway.
Everyone knows the WiiU is "capable" of 1080p.
But then so is the PS3.
Remember the PS3 launched with Lair which was 1080p.
It's got WipeOut HD too.
PS3 was hyped as a 1080p machine, but when devs wanted to produced beautiful graphics, big maps, semi-decent AI and steady framerate they reverted down to 720p or less (544p for Black Ops)
I think the thing that has worried most people is that (until now) there were NO 1080p ...
Now THAT was what I was waiting for before placing my pre-order.
Any chance of the golden "1080p" for ZombiU Ubisoft?
Nice to know the 1080p "capable" machine will actually run 1080p games.
I wonder if WiiU games will revert back to 720p when they start pumping out more impressive graphics.
Mass Effect is, afterall, a current gen game.
Will Next gen quality games all run in 1080p?
...I'm looking...
I'm coming around to the Wii U.
This game could convince me to make a purchase.
Is this alpha / beta footage?
Any chance the textures are going to improve or that we'll get 1080p or 60fps?
EDIT: Not complaining about the gameplay, which looks awesome. Was just hoping for a minor improvement in graphics for the start of next gen.
I can't think of any.
Infinity blade 2 is on rails
The Dungeon Hunters are cool but they aren't in the same league as diablo 3
Dead Trigger and Shadow gun are cool with nice graphics but the experience is shallow compared to a full triple A PS3 / 360 game.
NOVA 3 is polished, cool game, but I wouldn't class it as AAA, maybe AA.
Aralon HD? No.
I'm not trying to sound like an A-hole, but I'd be interested to hear what ...
Show me something my PS3 can't do.
Give me a reason to buy one. I dare you Nintendo.
(And checking your inventory on your controller screen doesn't count.)
@josephps3 - Exactly my sentiments.
Those of you that aren't ready - keep your current systems. Sony have shown that they'll keep supporting the older models. And Microsoft will do the same this time round. They won't drop the 360 like they did the original. There's no rush for you to upgrade to a new system.
But us "early adopters" need some new toys!
Bring it on.
Pumped for XBox and Playstation but that's only because of what I'm imagining they'll do.
...and I might start getting pumped for the Wii U if Nintendo decide to show us anything above 720p 30fps, or above the lighting & textures that the PS3 and 360 are already churning out.
Still not sorted different hit zones on the enemy, Capcom?
@ 1.32 in the video when the infected / half-zombie / "whatever it is supposed to be" gets shot in the leg by Leon... and then just falls over.
That looks bloody awful.
For a game that bases itself on shooting zombies, its not very satisfying shooting them when the animation system is so terrible.
@Arius Dion
So what you're saying is that we could be waiting 6 months / a year for the Wii U to start striding ahead of the PS3 and 360. By which time the next Playstation and XBox will be demoing their launch titles.
The trouble is that if you're a graphics fan you may as well stick with the current gen HD consoles and wait to see what launch titles for the NeXtBox720 and PS4 look like.
The Wii U doesn't launch with Zelda or a proper &qu...
Cool. So you guys obviously know your stuff.
I've always been a Nintendo Fan (apart from the Wii - hardware wise) Swapped to the PS3 this gen.
I've owned all the Ninty consoles, and I'm a massive Zelda, Metroid and Mario fan.
Haven't played Galaxy 2 or Skyward Sword yet (have all the other games though) as I sold the Wii halfway through the gen. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up with them with the Wii U. It has BC right?
Is the Nintendo Enthusiast well versed in the other consoles that launched this generation?
Because, quite frankly, anything is going to be awesome compared to the Wii.
On a serious note though. Good write up.
I'm beginning to get tempted by the Wii U.
ZombiU is right up my street.
A high quality PS3 game?
Like Uncharted 2?
Killzone 3?
GOW 3?
Last of us?
Which one? Because I don't see it.
You're talking about Pikmin 3 right?
The game that's current running 720p 30fps?
Like all of the Wii U games so far.
Oops, I forgot Mario Bros, the basic, stipped down platformer with no AI or current gen effects. That's running 60fps.
Rock and Roll NEXT GEN everybody!!
No, it's because of what we've seen so far with our eyes at E3.
I know nothing about specs and I'm sure that the games are going to look way better at launch than they do now, but so far the Nintendo First Party games we've seen look well below average for current gen.
Maybe they were Pre-Pre-Alpha versons. Let's hope so.
I don't totally agree about the PS3 and 360 being dated at the start of the gen.

They weren't up there with PC max setting graphics, but they were still pretty good.
Obviously PC is now waaaaaaay ahead.
I got the Wii on launch day (like I have with every Nintendo) and I was GUTTED when I played Wii Sports for the first time.
I played and beat Mario Galaxy though. With all stars.
It was great.
Twilight Princess, was alright.
