I live in the UK. And to answer your question: No.
The difference is:
SNES = excellent hardware and Mario and Zelda
N64 = excellent hardware and Mario and Zelda
Gamecube = excellent hardware and Mario and Zelda
Wii = poor last gen hardware but rescued by waggle controller and Mario and Zelda
Wii U = poor last gen hardware and so far no Mario or Zelda. (I mean proper mario like galaxy)

The Wii thrived last gen despite the lack of performance because the waggle controller captured the minds of the general public.
Hardware wise this generation seems to be repeating last gen with the Wii U a "bit" better than the gen before, only this time the Wii U doesn't have a "hook" to capture the imagination. People don't seem to have embraced the tablet like they did waggle.
That puts Nintendo on shaky ground. Hopefully they can last ...

Looks AMAZING for a portable game, but I'm not getting a Project shield / whatever. It's too big.
I enjoy gaming either in short bursts on my iPhone (World of Goo etc) at the train station, or if I'm parked in the car waiting for someone.
Or I play PROPER games (FPS, openworld etc) on a dedicated console/PC in my sitting room.
I'm not carrying a phone and a chunky portable games console wherever I go just in case I get time to...

Destiny sounds awesome but I don't understand how Bungie can do their grand vision justice on such old hardware.
