There are no negative to this whatsoever. It is basically the same model as the Xbox 360 with the added bonus of region free and day one digital download releases for all new games.

Bottomline, companies exist to please stock holders and make money, they react and switch strategy that fits the need of the company, nothing more, nothing less.
The patch is probably related to the Live dashboard update . The console being shipped within the next few months will not have the finalized version of the dashboard so that is why a patch is needed. It is really that simple. I bet PSN will also get an update on launch day to make sure every consoles get the latest firmware very similar to the Wii U launch.
Can't wait to test drive the rumble triggers on Forza 5 and Dead Rising on launch day.
Grabbed Fable 3, looking forward to getting all 12 free games that I can keep forever. Forever is nice. Just curious, never used PSN before, if my subscription runs out, do I get to keep playing all those free games each month or is it like subscription music in that if I decided not to renew, I can't play them anymore?
It's not greed, it is the power of the cloud. Because of Sony financial situation, selling buildings to help them stay afloat, they just don't have the $$$ to run 300,000 dedicated cloud servers for developers to take advantage of the next big thing, the cloud. That is why Respawn, Insomiac, and Capcom make their games Xbox exclusives because it just can't be done on the PS4. That is the truth.

I don't see a price drop, not this year anyway. Sales had picked up after the DRM Free announcement and the first few allotments should sell out this Holiday without any issue at $500. I can see a Spring reduction dependent on sales but I don't think you will see a separate SKU without a Kineck.
Single player are only important when you don't have internet access and/or to cheap to pay to play online. Cloud, dedicated server, the maturity of Live, best FPS controller on console, it is a match made in online gaming heaven. Can't wait for this game next spring.
Sony could have used some of the funds from those building sales to buy some exclusives but those were needed elsewhere that are more urgent. MS don't have that problem and they can buy whatever they want including maintaining 300,000 cloud servers. It is a fish eat fish world in Business.

Why are we so worry about a one time patch? I can care less what these patches are for as long as it patches and I'll be on my way to play the games. There is no conspiracy theory, get a grip people.

The PS3 method of game sharing is a cheat loophole and it is not considered a safe or legal way of sharing digital PSN games. It is tied to a single account and lets say you meet a friend 3000 miles away in New York, that person is not an authorized user of your account and you wouldn't want that person to have your account info. So that is invalid.

Maybe not, there is a rumor Crackdown 3 coming based on recent findings, Lion head studio hasn't shown anything yet, Epic games will most like make an appearance at E3, we know little about the Black Tusk Ips and MS also have a studio in Osaka that is most likely making a RPG. Also, judging by the surprise revealed of Dead Rising 3 and Sunset Overdrive, there might be more third party games being published by MS that had yet to be shown.
