I am mixed on this news. On the one hand if there are tons of games released exclusively for this, and regular 3DS games fall off then that is bad. But we may be reading too much into their intent with this new system.
Sure it will probably have it's exclusives like Xenoblade. Maybe the exclusives will mostly be made up of Wii games that the regular 3DS can't handle? Or maybe there will be a lot of games that can play on the regular 3DS, but have the ability to also t...
I do like how you pointed out the mistakes of the past rather than just jumping to "Wii U isn't powerful and mature games don't sell on it."
But I have two comments (I posted these on the article but still awaiting apporval).
The first is that developers can't let the past determine the present. A lot of those policies Nintendo had in the early days are gone. The N64 had many M rated games from their studios and from third parties. They ...
I don't think the Wii U was ever marketed to casuals to begin with. Not just because of the fact that Nintendo said prior to launch that that was not the primary focus though. Look at the Wii launch titles and then look at the Wii U launch titles. Big difference. Elebits, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Exite Truck (awesome game), Super Monkey Ball, Happy Feet, Wario Ware etc. That is a far cry from the Wii U's launch titles like Ninja Gaiden 3, Zombie U, Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, Arkham Cit...
Lol. People ask for Zelda and other Nintendo characters in MK games. Nintendo gives them and people complain about lack of originality. People say Nintendo has to keep relying on their trifecta of Mario/Zelda?DonkeyKong (sometimes they swap these titles with Yoshi or Kirby) despite Nintendo having over 120 IP in their history. People think the last new IP was Pikmin, even though Nintendo Land exists and even the Wii had games like Endless Ocean, Money Street (I think was the name) and some ...
I have a feeling Ubisoft is getting scared about their announcement regarding mature games and lack of support for Wii U. Now that Wii U sales are increasing dramatically, they won E3 and had the highest increase in preorders after Gamescom, and now Ubi is afraid the Wii U will actually be really successful and Ubi won't be around to reap the rewards. So they are trying to bash companies that are doing business with Nintendo.
Let's face it, no game company has ever gotten paid for advertising. Those billboards in GTA and NFS showing Coke or Mountain Dew or Porche are totally different than giving gamers free DLC. That is a blatant cash grab obviously. God forbid someone should try to amuse people with their DLC. Hopefully that Super Ultra Dead Rising DLC never comes out because it looks to amuse gamers with a bunch of stuff that doesn't normally fit in a zombie game.
Well since it's players are mostly adults I would say a lot. Xbox players though, probably less than 10 would be old enough to drive.
You've been saying this for a decade? You have been saying Nintendo should not try to compete with other hardware? So you were saying this for the entire lifespan of the WIi which was the most successful system last gen? You should not become a business analyst.
Also Mario Kart would sell more if it was on multiple systems. Guess what? Uncharted and Halo would also sell more if they were on other systems. And coincidentally GTA would sell less if it were only on one system. Crazy...
Nintendo will never go third party but for those who, like the author; "refuses to touch a Nintendo machine but wants to play some of their games" have fun hoping. Hey I would never say SOny should go third party just so I could play their games on Wii U. I support any company I feel deserves my support. I'll even buy an Xbox One at some point for Project Spark.
Well by the definition of generation it is a next gen machine. And what you are describing is a system with the power of a PS2 and are you telling me you would spend $99 on a PS2 right now? And since it is $100 cheaper than the other next gen consoles, and you obviously don't consider the Wii U a real next gen system, then by your own description they are not marketing it as a real next gen system.
1st parties only make kids games and nostalgic ones? And they don't attract new gamers? Dude you really have to get off that bandwagon of lies and see the real world.
When you want original first party IP's or immersive controls in 3rd party IP's you go to Nintendo. When you want the same old 30 year old ideas and controls you go to the others.
But their online is free and more stable than the other services so who cares if it is missing voice chat. That is not worth paying $60 a year for.
Why would you need a PS4 or Xbone? All they are getting is remasters and remakes and a few cross gen games, so might as well keep your PS3 or 360 to act as your secondary console next to your Wii U. Maybe next summer the other systems will be cheap enough and have some games to be worth it, but for now they would be nothing more than Netflix boxes for me. Plus with all the games coming to Wii U the other systems just can't compare.
Yeah saying ti will do well is probably the least positive thing anyone could say about it. Although having gone through 3 RROD's on 360 I don't really trust MS. Sorry that I speak the truth about how I feel, it's called an opinion.
Nintendo hands down. The Xbone will do well, maybe better than 360, but Nintendo has too strong of a lead and too many must have titles coming up to really put it down. I think next year the race will be between Nintendo and Sony.
Wow an actual article without any sort of fanboyism or obvious bias? Never thought I'd see the day. Although I do have to nitpick one thing: Smash Bros. is not a Mario game. Even if you are the type to lump Mario Kart and Mario Golf etc. into the "Mario game" genre, you cannot call SSB the same. It would be like calling Playstation Allstars a God of War game or an Uncharted game just because it has those characters in it.
SO a more powerful system should sell for less than a PS3? Logic... it does not exist for you does it?
Hopefully the cost of entry for the dev kits will stop too many terrible games or people who have no business building them, from entering the market. I have seen the prices of them and either the people behind "The Letter" are rich and don't need to care, or they are just not bright.
I always laugh when I read the part about how they had to decide whether to "make the main character Mario or a squid." IDK it just seems like a strange conversation to have. Like "OK guys we need to decide if we are going to use Mario or a squid. There is no other option."
