Does WWE have the right to ask for royalties if you distribute wrestling matches online? Can they pull it down if they want to? Can Sony Pictures sue you for releasing their movies online without their consent? Does Metallica have the right to go after people who distribute their music illegally? Does the owner of anything have the rights to let you or not let you do whatever you want with their property? If you answered yes to any of these then yes Nintendo has the right to do the same.

The thing with new IP is that they are prone to being lost in the shuffle. Wonderful 101 is a good example. It had great ratings and potential but it was new and people were more interested in the next CoD or Assassins Creed. Kingdoms of Amalur had the same problem. Those gimmicks you refer to. Are we talking about Kinect/PS Move? Or maybe rumble controllers? How about online services for consoles which Nintendo started? Maybe you are referring to videogames in general which are a gimmick? You insult Nintendo for their gimmicks but then jump in head first when Sony and MS announce their gimmicks (watching TV on your TV through your console for example). Sony and MS are probably working on their own Amiibos right now.
I own a Wii U and have no regrets. I have 13 games for it already and only 2 have Mario in the title and none are Zelda. For me the non-nintendo exclusives and 3rd party games, although fewer these days, are more than enough. I want a PS4 and Xbone in the future but considering most of their games will be on last gen as well I see no need to upgrade those systems yet. I guarantee that it is not for a new Nintendo home console (at least not if it is supposed to release in 2016), and highly doubt it would involve anything handheld related either considering the New 3DS.

So far I have been more than happy with my Wii U as my primary console and a PS3 for secondary purposes. The PS4 and Xbox One just don't look that interesting to me at the moment. A few of my friends got Xbones on Black Friday and the games look amazing but I have heard at least one story from each of them about the online being down or the game needing a 50GB update on day 1 and how they sort of wish they had waited. Probably next holiday I will get one or the other.

I can see where they are coming from here. First, in order to do their jobs and review the games they need to have a copy to review. And a lot of other games are sent to reviewers early so the review can be posted before launch to build the hype. If the publication has to wait unitl launch and go buy the game to review then they are not only not getting the review out until after launch, but they are spending $50-$60 per game they review.
