Nintendo has never really relied upon third party support to sell systems. It was always their first party games that were the system sellers.
I think the problem is Nintendo hasn't really shown anything thing new in their first party games. Don't get me wrong, the games look great, but I've seen it all before. There are barely any fresh franchises or innovative ideas.
