I agree that Kinect 1 has taken the wow factor out of Kinect 2.

The Kinect i know is unsuitable for playing games, apart from dance games. When they tries to use it in driving games or in Steel Battalion then it didnt work very well and left you feeling kinda stupid.

In all fairness my Vita's battery life is a lot better than my WiiU gamepad.

If im using headphones then i dont think vita battery is bad at all.

Wow, this totally went under my radar!

I was a huge fan of the snes Shadowrun game and love the new Xcom so this could be a dream come true for me.

Do you know if the player created levels is also a feature on the ios version?

But its not about choice - you cannot choose not to have Kinect, you cannot choose to buy a cheaper Xbox without Kinect.

Its forced on you and its forced on you for features which I think are useless gimmicks like the channel changing you mention.

None of those things you listed are problems, they are just improvements on the original kinect which are required since the original was not very useful for gaming purposes.

Good blog and i totally agree.

Kinect does some cool stuff, not very practical but definitely cool. My issue is that Microsoft are trying to convince us that its not just cool, its NEEDED.

This is the solution to those problems that have been gnawing away at us for all those years - except they haven't, and in reality the voice controlled stuff and hand swipey stuff is probably going to end up being a bigger ball-ache than just pushing a button.

Listen you don't have to pluck figures out of your ass in order to join in the conversation.

here is a list of PS3 games released in March - http://www.eurogamer.net/re...

Now go compare that to your local games retailer and tell me how many are around the £20 mark. Where i live its pretty much all of ...

This is not a particularly interesting topic. You should just make your point in one blog because i can guarantee that nobody is going to be sat on the edge of their seat waiting for the next installment.

The PS4 does come with a mic which is just as capable of doing voice commands, its just that the recognition software isnt baked into the OS like it is with the Xbox 1.

I think all the voice stuff is pretty cool, but its not a must have for me. MS seem to be putting a lot of resource into it to try and convince people that its a must have feature but its still very gimmicky, a lot like 3D on the PS3.

Kinect is a cool add on, but it dosnt justify its expense ...

No - more like 6 weeks, that's why i said it. In the UK where I live some games hit £20 after the first two weeks.

And yeah AAA games too - GOW Ascension, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite - all AAA games about 3 months old are going for around £20 in GAME.

90% of all games are 20 bucks 6 weeks after launch - so what's your point ?

@nukeitall

Kinect is not a speech recognition device, thats all handled by software and it would work just as well using any other microphone.

And many games pre kinect did speech recognition just as well, there is nothing particulary special about it.

Whats beside the point is your data - its total speculation. Neither you nor I have any idea how many subscribers PS+ has, so to pluck a figure out of your ass to back up the point you want to is nonsense.

Your figures on the number of gold subscibers are incorrect.

By Microsoft's own numbers the total number of Live subscibers (silver + gold) is 46 million, with approximatley half of those being gold scubscibers.

The half figure comes from MS data in 2010 when they had admitted they had 25 million Live users with 12.5 million gold subscribers, so it would be reasonable to assume that the ratio has stayed around the same level.

Ah yes, fog calculations - the bane of any graphics processor, thank the lord that they can now be handled in the cloud !

And atmospheric effects no less ! I look forward to seeing glorious cloud processed heat shimmer because thats clearly a much better idea than just doing it on the local hardware.

Worst name for a game ever

If he wasn't pushed then i'll eat my own buttcheeks.

No way MS would have him as the face of the new console if he is gonna jump ship several months later, nor that someone in that kind of position would be so unprofessional as to go through with such an announcement and then jump ship before the actual launch.

Then they let the guy continue making PR statements about the Xbox 1, including the now famous 180. If his departure was known by either party...
