So we can expect to see non-gimped versions of Forza, Gears, Halo, and others on tablets and smartphones? I don't think so. I'm really referring to home-class games here, not so much generic shovelware from mobile platforms. The justifications for UWA so far seem very thin and hollow.

MS is full of shit, but tons of people will fall for their newest scheme as usual. Just look at the Windows Store. It's literally GFWL version 2.0. Years ago they tried to charge PC gamers actual money for subscription fees just to use GFWL. PC gamers weren't having it, so MS quickly recanted and removed the fee. But GFWL was still there and still crappy, and they kept trying to push it.

Agreed. It's a damn shame too because the two expansions they made for GTA IV were dope as hell. They added new weapons, new vehicles, new activities, new interiors, and of course the new stories with new characters.
Judging by some of the game data that people found, there was indeed some SP stuff in development at some point, but like you said, it probably got scrapped and they decided to just go full bore on GTAO instead.
