All that Sony Balogne talk about MS putting all their 'marbles' in the Halo franchise just got nullified. Though MS did with the old xbox, they didn't with 360...but it still obviosly paid off!
Sony's putting all it's marbles into BluRay. Did that pay off? Halo NO! Nothing you could put in a bluray has sold better than Halo 3!

You just answered your question and proved my point! In online gameing,; there's a host and there are client connections. On XBL the user who hosts with a Wi-Fi will be severely hampered. In certain games, your connection is randomly (methodically?) used as host in the background. If you happen to be WiFi, you will LAG everyone.
If you are a client using Wi-Fi, it'll work but be leary that it's more susceptible to lag, disconnections, etc. For casual gamers, that's ok but ...
You don't have to buy Wifi at all. And you don't have to buy MS's WiFi, as any USB compatible Wi-Fi will work.
Few customers realize that the P$3 does NOT come with an HDMI cable nor gaming headset. Just as few gamers realize it's PREFERABLE to have a WIRED connection for online gaming.
Since you put Wi-Fi on such a pedestal, then why don't you get all your servers to operate Wi-Fi instead of wired?
No? Why not? The connection isn't guaranteed and nor is the data rate? Well, believe it or not Mr. 'IT' Man, the connection and data rate is crucial to online gaming as well.

It seems the only people complaining and 'wanting' this, are those who never played extensively online or Sony/Nintendo owners.

You have to watch what you say when you're near enemies becuase they can hear you, if they are close. The team leader and squad leader updates the team on the sit and everyones' whereabouts. What you do on the field increases your chances of leading your squad or team.
This sounds like a true TEAM based game. But the graphics look like GRAW 1 (not bad but a little old).
It sounds like Battlefield then...but with a different twist. I'm not though, trying to 'dis' Warhawk with a comparison to an EA game (I h8 EA). I'd play Lair or Two Worlds, any day & all day before I'll give EA my money...and that includes Madden too.
