Considering Gaikai will probably only have a small amount of PS3 titles and the system will be supported for at least 2 more years yes the PS3 is definitely worth it and will be for a LONG time.

This is a trend that will get worse instead of better. The longer micro transactions are allowed to exist the more publishers and developers will create their games around it and it will start affecting game design as a whole. Grinds will get longer, perks will become smaller, levels will spike in difficulty at specific points and afterwards the game will ask you 'hey, things getting a little challenging?' The lead hero you pick can have different effects on some of your abilities depending on who it is. Unlockable characters like Bayonetta or Rodan have the most noticeable like 'witch time' or being able to use the hammer with a higher combo. It doesn't change the the kind of weapons you can use but it does augment an available weapon of skill. If I had the money for a better PC I would use it way more than I do now, there are just so many perks. Modding, both for cool content and for fixing broke releases, cheap deals, easy access and so forth. Sure PC doesn't get some of those awesome exclusives on console but that goes both ways.
