Even though you are not wrong, these numbers refer only to sales in the US. It being a worldwide release will make the overall number look way higher than other systems, but it is still significant that it sold more than even the Wii in its first 2 days.
The title is really misleading. The article shows HZD beating Zelda only in the UK region. I don't mean to damage control or anything, but that just was going to happen. There's about 3 million Wii Us and only 80K Switches in the UK as opposed to the over 10 million PS4s there. I have very little doubt that HZD beat Zelda in other regions as well, but the fact that a game on a new console got second place period in a very anti Nintendo region is very impressive.
That actually makes sense. Systems marketed as consoles never do as well as their handheld counterparts, and the Switch is shown primarily as a console in the marketing. I never thought the Switch would outsell 3DS simply for this reason, but I do see it selling at least 30 million lifetime, hopefully more.
You do have to keep in mind that almost every other console launches in the holiday season where people are more willing to spend a lot of money at one time. Nintendo knew that there would be relatively less demand during Spring so they didn't ship out as much at launch, though they should have over stocked just a little but oh well. What will really determine this systems longevity is how it does this holiday.
The main reason I'm getting it on Switch is because I really like handheld gaming,so playing Breath of the Wild on the go is very appealing.
No console can be perfect, and even the PS4 didn't get unanimous praise at launch. The lowest score I've seen for the Switch so far is 8/10, with quite a few of them being 9/10 or higher. So overall the media seems to have a pretty positive view of it.
I believe the wording was that they had over 80 games from 1st and 3rd party companies in active development. If I'm not mistaken, I think Nintendo usually distinguishes between 3rd party and indies, so I don't think these indie games are necessarily part of that 80+.Stuff like Shovel Knight might be since it has wide scale appeal and is widely recognizable, but I don't think the rest of them are in that set.
I don't mean to get super political, but per that analogy you are saying that the Switch will actually end up selling more than PS4 by about 3 million units, yet PS4 will be named the winner of the generation due to an arbitrary system where some units sold count more than others. I do not deny that the people who are getting the Switch are talking about it and being vocal, but I honestly feel that the pre order numbers and overall buzz for the system indicate that it will be at least a m...
Please elaborate on what mistakes they actually are repeating. I see comments like this all the time, but never actually hear what exactly they are referring to.
@Enate FE Warriors is coming for both the Switch and New 3DS
I think that all depends on how well the Switch sells. Nintendo has stated that they are always looking into the handheld market, but do not have any concrete plans right now for an actual 3DS successor. If the Switch underpreforms, then they will most likely fast-track R&D of their next handheld. But if the Switch actually sells well and people are liking the console handheld hybrid idea, then I feel that Nintendo will simply consider this both their handheld and console for the time bei...
I don't see the 3DS no longer being supported in 2018 as premature. The system would have been out for nearly 7 years at that point, and it only really gets big spikes in sales the months a Monster Hunter or Pokemon game comes out. Since the Switch will most likely at least get the next Monster Hunter and Pokemon game along side 3DS, it it reasonable that they go ahead and kill off the system so that the people who enjoy these series (the main ones that sell the 3DS for the most part) can...
There have been a couple of games announced for 3DS by Nintendo themselves. Notably Pikmin 3DS (assuming that's still coming),Mario Sports Superstars, and Fire Emblem Warriors (which is a New 3DS exclusive). If a Pokemon game is announced this year, it will most likely come to both 3DS and Switch, especially since Nintendo doesn't want to abandon the upwards of 3 million people who bought a 3DS last holiday season alone just to play Sun and Moon.
The only reason Nintendo ditched the Wii U after 4 years is that it didn't sell nearly as well as they or anyone would have wanted it to. If Wii U had sold like 30 million or more, they probably would have stuck it out until 2018 or later. I do not foresee them abandoning the Switch in the same way unless it too somehow flops just as hard.
Not trying to defend the Wii U's sales, but it would actually make sense that the PSVita would outsell it. The Vita was out over a year before the Wii U was and handhelds almost always sell more than the consoles of that gen. Regardless they both sold terribly, but they both had some pretty good games while it lasted.
I've said this before, but it actually makes sense this time for there not to be an ethernet port on the Switch dock. It would most likely mess up the connection if you had to take an online game from the dock connected through ethernet out and keep playing with a wireless connection. $90 for the dock is a bit steep considering what all is in it, so I don't have a good defense for that being so pricey.
Right now the Wii U at retail is the same cost that the Switch will be, $300. Breath of the Wild actually has lower quality graphics and overall crispness, plus the sound quality is worse on the Wii U version. So it would make just as much sense to buy a Switch just for this game, especially since more games will come to it, something that cannot be said about the Wii U.
I feel like Donkey Kong is at least 2nd tier. They don't come out too frequently (more frequently than Metroid has recently), but they are always very highly rated and sell fairly well. Even Tropical Freeze sold over 1 million on the Wii U.
This is honestly one of the worst articles I have ever read. This guy clearly did not do his research, blindly believed rumors, and refused to look at the whole picture (i.e. the handheld market) when writing this. This is why I used it for my most recent "Stupid Nintendo Articles" video.

Japans Switch launch was actually way better than America's. They got Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2 and few other games that we didn't get, which no doubt helped sales over there.
