I don't understand why changing a colour on the background is so important. I mean, after you've moved about the dashboard to find what you want, you fire up the app or game and its goodbye dashboard.

I never got the themes on the 360 either. From MS point, yeah ok, a money maker. But from a consumer point of view, you couldn't see the background pictures anyway because they were always obscured. Waste ...
It would make little to no sense to put HL3 out on steam box only.
The series was built for the wider pc audience and besides its being too long since that last installment.
People really don't care and many don't even remember the series.

I was brought up on old skool stuff like the speccy, C64, AMIGA and ST. Consoles were proper ass back then!!!
Once 1st person games like wolfy and of course Doom, the reason I blew an entire student loan, came out, that was the way forward. Only problem was the storyline sucked ass.
HL went a huge distance in creating a believable universe. And the character of Freeman was genius!...
There can be a number of reasons why there is a lack of first party fps.
It could well be MS have been caught off guard with the speed of Sony's launch. Maybe the games they wanted to put out at launch will just not be ready.
Maybe, like someone else has said, why put them up against cod and bf4? Seems like economic suicide. If it had been Halo then no problem.
