It will happen basically every time someone has two items on the list and want one quickly.

Would they go against their and the industry's trend? I don't believe so... Dead Space 3 and Mass Effect 3 have pretty much shown their desired destiny in the latest entries.
I can only remember Escape from Avernum when I think of another really open gaming-RPG game.
