there is more to it than just a hippy view of saving the environment. i guarantee you that there are probably government incentives to going green in addition to the saving of print like tax benefits and other things like that.

for original disc installs the disc copied to the HDD is a mounted image, much like the daemon tools utility. Its not the same as traditional installs for PC. the 360 goes through the same process of reading the disc image and loading the game to memory just like it does off the disc. Obviously you will get marginal speed increase due to the faster HDD drive, but other benefits include less noise, dvd drive wear and reduced heat.

I dunno who keeps thinking there's going to be this monumental jump in graphical prowess from the 360 this year. as far as i can tell the hardware had remained the same since launch.
of course development is restricted when trying to develop two(sometimes 3) different versions of the same game. the initial vision for the game needs to be remain the same, as it would add delays and costs to the final product ie; bly-ray/PC HDD advantages.
Today's games also cost so much $$ to produce that it's almost a waste of efforts to limit your game to one system.
why? so it comes with less features out of the box? a separate power source means its not just a simple eyetoy rip off that solely runs off usb power.

its getting harder and harder to find professional journalism in todays gaming scene. thank god for game demos and videos because half the sh*t people report on are biased or of a personal nature. I think the "game journalist" will be gone soon and we'll have enough firsthand information through demos and vidDocs to rely on our own judgments.
