COD has one thing that will always make it more popular than Killzone 2. It's a very easy game to play it does not require much skill. All you really need to do is pull the gun up and shoot. The auto aim assist will do the rest. Halo and COD 4 by making the game more casual has increase their games sales by tapping into the casual gamer market much like how Wii has done right now.

There is only one reason why anyone would say Killzone 2 multiplayer sucks.
Killzone 2 Requires Skill and so it's not for everyone.
They need to enable Auto Aim Assist but give you the option to turn it off. Noobs will love it and if they really want a challenge they can go into Clan Matches that really mean something.
Gears of War Gameplay sucks. The maps are small and the weapons are cheap. And last but not Least the gameplay is very slow to make it easy for the less skilled player. I guess that's why everyone loves it.
