I agree qith you, the problem is that there are only a few -really a few- indie games that have the quality of fluid. Games like Braid, Auditorium and... that dark game about the boy and the spider, forgot it's name right now.
On the other side, are the other indie games, and the wii would be filled with jewelry and angry animals.
Well, no new IP's, but most of it's games are pretty darn good. Plus, they dont launch a new mario/zelda title every year like certain FPS. Plus, almost every Mario game was far more innovative than FPS series. In SM3 you have power-ups, in SMW you have Yoshi, 64 was a 3D world, Sunshine... bas bad. And Galaxy have the gravity element. The variety doesnt seem to be there because the lack of 3D parties, but Bungie had only make Halo, for example, and most companies has in reality only ...
So, let me see if I get this right. IGN got a free system, somehow it colapsed, and now IGN wants to be compensated for not getting his free service. I'm asumming they want a free limited edition PS3 with a "enjoy your free service" slogan, and a copy of every AAA game for the next five years.

Every enemy en the Star Wars Games for SNES on Jedi Difficulty. Even the smaller ones were almost a 1 touch killers.
If you didn't notice, thats what "great" games like COD and Battlefield are doing for us. I've never heard anyone saying "omg, the campaign for COD was awesome!"

Yes, but I find more hope in the past. FPS isnt exactly a new genre, the real problem are the military FPS. Games like Doom, Goldeneye, Fear, XIII, Killer 7, Unreal Tournament, Quake, Half Life, Z Gundam, Bioshock... the genre had variety, and can have it again. Even if the bases are the same, the games can be different.
Maybe we're not getting tired of the genre itself: We're just getting tired of shooting militars.

I agree with the graphics point. The graphic "evolution" is just add more polygons and effects to the mix. Did someone here played XIII for PC, PS2 and PC? Man, those cell shaded graphics were great, the story was deep, and was pretty fun. Or Killer 7 on Gamecube. Or, at least, do SOMETHING with the characters. Brink is looking really good, for example.
Portal 2 It's more like a First Person Puzzle, since the objective isn't the shooting itself, but pass across the levels. I cant think right now on something that replaces the portal gun, but the game would be the same even if the portals were magic fired from the arms or something like that.
If you think a little more about the game... all you shoot were walls lol
