But there'll always be room for side stories and prequels. Case in point: God of War's story ended with 3, but that series is still going.
Entirely untrue. There is nothing that makes the Xbox One more "futureproof" in truth. Weird how journalists have mistaken Microsoft's ill-conceived attempt to force DRM on people for a grand vision of the future, huh?
Taking this with a grain of salt, although boring generic brown shooter is right up Cliffy's alley, and this looks like that.
Concern is understandable, since if Double Helix (a B-tier studio if there ever was one) screw it up, that'll be it for Killer Instinct. That said, it's a wonder Microsoft are even attempting a revival.
Cliffy is going to miss having someone more obnoxious on twitter than himself, I suppose.
Sounds a bit disingenuous. I think it's more likely that they recognise a re-launch at the start of a new generation is their best shot at establishing it as a major franchise.
If attempting to cash in on the (admittedly questionable) popularity of Lightning amongst Japanese and western fans in lieu of *original content* and intentionally attempting to pander with revealing or moe outfits isn't desperate and lazy, then we can assume that - because all game development requires work and crossovers give fans "what they want" - there are no situations where these words can be applicable.
This is absurd on its face.
I'm surprised Sony hadn't prepared for this eventuality. It's a shame as well, because this was actually a cool idea.
It's desperate and lazy regardless.
Namco-Bandai shouldn't really be casting stones re: relevance.
The author's position - what little of it is defensible, anyway - is largely predicated on their perception of the quality of Sony's exclusives. If you don't like franchises such as inFamous or Killzone, I guess you can make the argument that, right now, the software isn't there to sell you. But the Xbox One is decidedly not in a better position software-wise, which is where I think his case (such as it is) breaks down.
Amazed so many outlets are reviewing this.
Next he'll be telling us that it's software that sells hardware, not the other way around. Y'know, other things we already knew.
I wonder what kind of blackmail material Toriyama has on the other dudes at Square-Enix to get away with forcing Lightning into everything.
Yes, there are games that take it further. There always has been. The Lightning Returns example is worse because there was never a need to be so blatant with their fanservice until FFXIII and XIV damaged the brand.
I'm sure they still intend to tout the 10 year life cycle, but 10 years is a long time in the technology world so a smart guy like Cerny would maybe be reticent to commit to such a thing.
Thinking they knew better is what got them into the DRM mess to begin with. The price issue will just be another lesson they're late in learning.
There have been uglier boxes. These two are actually pretty reasonable, really.
It's a weird comparison because they set out to do such different things. I don't really think one can be strictly better than the other.
Directionless flailing has seemed much the order of the day at Microsoft since E3. Hopefully they stabilise under their new leadership. Lord knows, it will be hard for her to do worse with this box than Mattrick was.
