How many times has there been a franchise that started with meh sales like Fire Emblem to actually becoming a decent size hit after multiple sequels? Pretty impressive how the series just seems to slowly but steady keep getting stronger sales wise.
I agree that it mostly searching and searching and managing inventor instead of action/shooting. It's not for me either but I wouldn't "wish it would die".
People clearly love it. Let them have their fun. Doesn't stop me from enjoying a massive AAA title like God of War or a wonderful indie game like Hollow Knight or great horror title like Resident Evil 2 Remake or a quirky Japanese shooter like Splatoon 2.
We are still getting ...
I love TEW2 but yea I like RE2 remake a bit more so far. Both are fantastic.
@Christopher ... I don't think Sony ever beats Nintendo as a solo publisher in sales. I could be wrong but NPD, UK, Japan charts all seem to point to Nintendo as publisher being always near the top even on their bad years.
@Razzer, ... this was a side comment where we got into the debate as solo publisher.
I think the TC of this thread meant as a solo publisher. Nintendo published vs Sony Published vs Microsoft published etc etc. But he or she can confirm.
As a full system, Sony and Microsoft's systems should sell more software easily thanks to their vast third party support.
Agree 100% with ur post
About 35% complete. I like it more than Rise so far. Lots of puzzles and platforming in tombs. Feels great on "One With the Jungle" hard mode that gives no tips or clear visual clues for puzzles and platforming. Pretty awesome imo.
Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart Deluxe, Zelda BotW, Pokemon X/Y are all around 9-15 million each but they are considered first/second party Nintendo.
Nintendo has a ton of the best selling franchises of all time, but this article is strictly for third parties
^ this. If you look at the reviews, it is bullet for bullet the same exact review.
It's way too similar. Easy to spot rip off.
As for the game itself, played it on Steam Early Access, it is fantastic.
True but does that matter? It's not like we are comparing an Uncharted 2 or Metal Gear Solid 3 story to a more typical Mario story.
It's OK story vs almost no story. It's not a big deal. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is like starting from the quality of the later stages in Galaxy 1 and only continue to improve on them.
The real advantage Galaxy 1 has over 2 is that ... it came out first.
That's pretty much the only substanti...
And yet Mario Odyssey has been out for about 6 less months and has almost 2 million more in sales. Yup ... Zelda catching up any minute now. PS, I prefer BOTW, but its not going to outsell a main Mario game.
This site is truly anti Nintendo. Even a post about how good their puzzles were gets dislikes. That's pretty insane if you are remotely unbiased.
Last year ... it did. Might not be your personal favorite but it won by a landslide from the majority.
Not a popular opinion but I would put 3D world up in the top 5. The level design, the semi 3D/2D gameplay feel (best of both worlds imo), the power ups, and one of the best coop games ever.
I think my list would be using both replayability today and nostalgia ...
1. Galaxy 2
2. Super Mario Bros 3
3. Super Mario Bros World
4. 3D World
5. Galaxy 1
I prefer the more platforming oriented games over the ...
Very Metroid like in terms of progression where power ups open up new paths but with use of some of the game's optional platforming techniques, you can sequence break like Super Metroid's single wall jump for example or bomb jumping.
Then add in Dark Souls like atmosphere, lack of map (partially), optional bosses, overall length.
And some Dark Souls/Castlevania type combat.
This game is a MASTERPIECE
Would help if you name the others. I love tons of indie action/platformers like Ori, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, Guacamelee. Have to try out Celeste.
Who are the AAA big budget studios making the other outstanding platformers?
Sega's best in years is Sonic Mania which is kinda like an indie game they published.
Hollow Knight is AMAZING!!!
Look at my avatar pic ... obviously Metroid for me.
if you love Metroidvanias .... you need to play the original. It's easily one of the top 5 Metroidvania games of all time.
Agree ... incredible game. One of the best games I have ever played. Damn shame how many people didn't play it and/or misunderstood that you could play with stick controls and that stick controls were vastly superior to touchscreen controls.
Hopefully now on Switch, PC and PS4 ... this amazing game gets the attention it deserves. The IP btw is still owned by Nintendo so will this be the first game on Playstation with the Nintendo logo?
