Nice work! Sounds like you've got a good handle on things!

I find it a pretty rewarding feeling after completing a build, like I have created my own custom game rig to my own exacting specification, strengths and budget.

I see, it looked like the fan was pushing air into the cooler towards the front of the case. It's not a problem if the cpu fan is pulling air through the cooler instead of pushing it through as long as all the fans are working together and the air flow is consistently pushing in from the front of the case and out through the back of the case.

I was wondering what that white box was! lol

I also had a problem with running that line, I have the RM850i powe...

4. It looks like you removed the lower, smaller drive tray (maybe to make room for routing power cables?) and you have a hard drive in the top slot of the larger drive tray. I would personally take the large tray out and reinstall the smaller tray. Routing the cables on the back side of the case should make room for the smaller tray and I would mount the hard drive in reverse so the cables connect from the back side. This will remove the large tray, hard drive and cabling from the cross dr...

First of all, James, I have to apologize. I was up in the middle of the night dealing with a really bad ongoing case of the cold/flu and after re-reading my comment, I see that my crappy sick-of-being-sick feelings flowed straight into my extra douchy comment so, I am sorry and anyone that is able to put together a build like this is obviously not dumb.

Some of the other things I noticed, I hope they help you improve your build. :)

My build happens to include much of the same hardware that he is using including that fractal design case, Z170-A motherboard and G.skill Ripjaws V memory.

Based on what I am seeing in the picture, he clearly didn't crack the cover of his motherboard user's manual. Think about it, this is a period in time where physical user's manuals just don't exist, you're lucky if you get a disc, it's usually only available if you specifically go to the companies ...

I think you would get far better results if you got a second GTX 970. A pair of 970s in sli is pretty close to a single 980ti and the second GTX 970 would set you back about $300-325ish.

Don't forget you will need to also buy a new motherboard and DDR4 ram if you upgrade to the 6700k, probably looking at about $600, maybe more depending on what you choose and you will still only have the one GTX 970 in the end...

edit: don't take it the wrong wa...

Personally, I went with the i5-6600k, not that anyone's hardware choice is right or wrong at all, you do what pleases you right?

The i7-5820k/i7-5960x and the i5-6600k performed comparably vs the 6700k in games, pretty impressive really.

PCG: What characterises a PC game for you? If there are things that are more suited for keyboard and mouse, how does it work the other way? Which Xbox games are not good candidates for the PC?

Phil: You’ll laugh when I say this, but let’s say a Kinect game. Dance Central, probably not the best PC game. So I—and we’ve said ...

Firaxis Games, Bethesda Softworks, CD Projekt Red, Rockstar, Blizzard and Bioware would be my personal top six in no particular order :)

I'd argue that the dx12 update will make a big difference in the tomb raider comparison. And I would further offer that the pc version isn't a lock for settings, at the closest match settings it features improved shadows, improved Ambient occlusion and renders cut scenes at a full 1920x1080 as pointed out on digital foundry. Also, pure hair on pc features a much denser number of individual hair strands and it also looks like there is more geometry on pc aswell as seen in these video...

@instantstupor

Here is maybe a different way of framing it.

First, any game that's been made needs a certain amount of success before the developer will consider making a sequel, by opening the game to the windows platform as well as X1 then that could give many games that extra bit of success that's needed to warrant a sequel. So if you wanted to play games like QB, Forza, Scalebound, Crackdown, Sunset, etc the decision to open up to the windows pla...

It's a nice monitor no doubt but for that kind of money I think I'd rather have the Acer Predator X34, a 34" curved ultrawide monitor featuring and ips panel, 100hz adaptive refresh(gsync) and a 3440x1440 resolution (which is actually about 60% fewer pixels than UHD so you may actually hit that 100hz for some games). Or maybe wait for an ultrawide ips monitor to hit 120hz or even 144hz which will probably happen by the fall.

@gareth
$400-$600 is the price point for gamers that already have a ps4. For everyone else the cost of psvr is $750-$950. When those figures are being tossed about, then the pc option starts to look a lot better especially if you start talking about free online, cheaper games and a better overall presentation (ie framerate, resolution, level of detail, etc)

I stand corrected, I falsely assumed these were TTPs based on how they appeared in the photo and I openly admit I was wrong.

Actually, D-box natively supports 74 games, mostly racing and flying games but some shooters too... They aren't the only motion simulator in town either, there's CXC Simulation, SimXperience, InMotion, 3DOF and some smaller ones all with varying amounts of native game support D-box is just the one that has the deepest support in gaming, the film industry and home theater.

The product being ahown here is just tactile transducer pads (aka bass shakers) and there are al...

I am divided... on the one hand, an overclocked non-k model represents some unexpected value... on the other hand, overclocking a non-k model will result in more warranty claims forcing price increases and hence punishing people that have no interest in overclocking whereas the k models already have that price built in... in the end, I think the K model is the best choice for someone that wants to overclock, it goes through more rigorous quality controls which will result in a better experien...

@darkocelet

I assume some people hook their console up to high refresh rate gaming monitors. Some HDTVs accept 1080p signals up to 120hz, the Vizio P series comes to mind for example and some HDTVs can be overclocked, just like some monitors can be overclocked.

Inequality is inherent in all network gaming, here's why:

Player A:
-has a low ping internet connection to the game server
-has a wired network connection ...
