I think it really may be holding it back in Multiplat development because of the storage medium differences.
I mean, devs have been stuck with DVD for 9 years since the PS2 came out....you'd think they'd be ready to move on instead of being restricted to around 8 gigs of data.
Blu-ray is liberating for developers, and the proof is out there in the games and what the devs say themselves.

You are right and wrong.
It can be either. Faulty coding, even the teeniest, tiniest little coding error can cause a system freeze. That's what bug testing, QA testing, beta testing, and all that good stuff is for.
Yet it also can be a hardware issue.
If it becomes widespread...the chance of it being a software issue requiring a patch becomes much much more likely.
Remember, heat coming out of your PS3 is a good thing! That means the fan is doing its job; heat is leaving your system and not sitting in the interior =)

Anyways, after playing campaign co-op in World at War today, I must say I will definitely miss that feature in MW2.
At least when my PS3 freezes, I know it's a software issue, because my hardware is super clean, inside and out. No heat buildup in my PS3, that's for sure.
My PS3 has only frozen because of the web browser...when I had 3 tabs open lol
