This is a market of multi platform games now, and PS3 can't compete waiting for blu ray to justify it's significant extra price. It's just not gonna happen. These consoles are purchased by people on the market for games not HD movies.

360 gets surprise hits like left 4 dead, because it's userbase is clearly in the market for games.

PS3 didn't cut price all year, they are just choking the life out of the PS3, do people seriously expect even further 360 price cuts? They already had big price cuts all 2008.
If that's true, then PS3 is finished, because now it should be Sony's turn for PS3 price cuts, Microsoft already had their turn. You understand?

NPD is just United States, not global.
360 has a more than 3-1 install base advantage over PS3 in the United States.

PS3 was outselling 360 this year, till Microsoft went for the it all with aggressive price cuts and a sweet spot Sku of $199 and tons of advertisement showing all their Gears of War 2 followed by a $199 price tag. Just about every 360 game advertisement had a $199 at the end.
Considering Microsoft gave their best shot trying to reach the masses with a $199 sku, they didn't sell that much more than they did last December.
Why did the PS3 survive? Maybe because of Blu ray, I don't know.

Even catching the XBOX 360 is looking far fetched as the 360 is opening a larger lead everyday and Sony still talks about longevity and has a console that plays most of the same games and costs more than double, almost triple in some regions.
