"a breach of such a widely used service raises concerns of data privacy, identity theft, and other misuse of sensitive personal and financial data... When a data breach occurs, it is essential that customers be immediately notified about whether and to what extent their personal and financial information has been compromised." -- wonder what Sony thinks is important enough to immediately contact their customers to help them protect their own data? I know of major banks that sent out...

Why..? Tit for tat?? Yours are burst and you hate seeing others spout off when you can't??

More then likely the hackers left someone elses ip in the log. Not difficult to mirror ip's and routing to get into a system. Your ip will never be seen. Don't imagine the movies where the heroes back track the ip to the hackers home.

If that IS the case then it is just a 14 year old not thinking straight. If it is anyone that actually hacks then they will not be revealing their own ip. Count on it.

From reports the intrusion itself didn't take the network down. It was taken down internally for security. No reports of hackers actually taking the network down have been presented from Sony. Only that data has possibly been compromised. If this is the case then the intital statement of them NOT knowing why it went down is not accurate.

Bad analogy due to your house not having an outside stake in it. (i.e where is the reference to Sony customers?)

@gamingdroid

Kind of makes you miss the President Bush moments of sitting stupified when hearing that planes crashed into the Trade Center. Now that deserved an emergency moment responce, yet we just got the rest of the childrens story.

Sony's reaction to all of this has been rather poor when it comes to media realtions. Expecting to see some Sony official jumping onto the sword and quitting on this media flub.

Really...? And then someone thought the blog was news worthy enough to put on N4G???

@Lord_Doggington

Actually when you signed up it stated in your service agreement that SCEA policy allowed for the service to be taken down at any time for what ever reason. No promise of service was evere made.

This author knows nothing about the gaming community nor commercialism.

How would world markets deal with this supposed agreement on one console?

I am so tired of these types of articles... they are futile and lead to Fanboy bickering and are only made to get hits on poor websites.

Sony doesn't need to do anyhing. They can just take PSN away and nothing can be done about it. Why not have PS3 focus on single player games more then online? Do something right instead of trying to do everything and geting it wrong.

Yep it is free... if Sony chose to take away PSN completely from PS3 as they did their Other OS option, then really nothing you the consumer could do about it. Just as their argument for Other Os... contradicted by the explicit terms stated in SCEA's written express warranty, the System Software License Agreement and the PSN Terms of Service.

"These contracts specifically provide PS3 purchasers with a license, not an ownership interest, in the software and in the ...

Wasn't the original Call of Duty based off the typical war movies at the time? And thus we turn around and make a movie out of a video game based on movies???

They did that movie already... Enemy at the Gates.

I thought this was top 10 SOLDIER based video games. Not top 10 police, commanders-in-chief, Snake (Soldier? Not feeling it... super human character maybe).

Need to remove the following from this list: Metal Gear Solid, Hearts Of Iron,and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Need to add Operation Flashpoint, Men of Valor, and Full Spectrum Warrior. Possibly Medal of Honor:Frontline some place in this mess of games.

That wouldn't be the challenge part... that would fall into the vindictive aspect of people in general.

Give someone a game to play with and then take it away... they are going to find away to play it and then show you how much you pissed them off. Now give them that game to play with and let them enjoy it and they become a fan and support you till the end. What did Sony do here...?

'hacker always need an excuse for hacking'- this is a false statement. Hackers have never needed an excuse to hack, they hack because of the challenge of testing their skills and meeting a challenge of doing something that others can't... as well said by ReBurn above.

Hackers are drawn to devices that allow them open freedom to manipulate data and PS3 was that when it was open for operating systems... BUT Sony took that away from their customers that might have...

@RememberThe357

Exactly... well worded. If the next generation can't make a big enough leap in technology then it isn't ready to jump yet. Hold off until you can bring us a system that leaps far enough into the next generation and not just a PS3.5 or XBox 360.5 or even a Wii.5 for that matter.

You either have a big EGO thinking you can beat any game in under 24hrs, or you have not played many games? What do you consider beating the game...? Getting to the credits as fast as you can? Or playing for the experience and enjoying it to the end? And are you talking in game time or actual time spent on the game?

None of this should be about how fast you can beat the game... it should be on how much time you can spend in the game. If I can get to the end of the game in a...

Obviously G4 has not served in the military! I recall just a few years after being in the military my mother commenting that I appeared to curse in everything that I say. I took heart in that and though I tried to curb myself when around my family I found that it was not easy. It's like living in a new p...

Meatboy is considered an Arcade game title, not an Indie game title.

Not all Indie developers are having issues. I for one am not.
