That the core artists have all apparently moved to Retro means that the game would have maximum consistency on a visual level. The trick would be injecting it with what it needs to have that Nintendo-like quality, which I don't think would be a problem with Nintendo overseeing everything Retro does. I'd be curious to see how this turns out, though I admittedly don't think it's too likely.
Haven't you been reading the reports of developers skipping Wii U because they can't think of a way to use the GamePad? Clearly they don't get the message.
...but the new RPG coming to Wii U DOES have co-op.
For 3x the initial cost, to achieve about half the final sales levels actually isn't that bad. I'd expect more like a third of PS2 sales given the way things started.
I'm incredibly worried about the state of Wii U though. It's WAY below targets.
Aonuma has already said that they're getting rid of the convention that you HAVE to play alone. Which isn't to say that they're FORCING you to play with others... in which case there's really no reason to worry. You'll still be able to play by yourself.
Better to come up with suggestions to make it as non-intrusive and/or actually value-adding as possible than to try to say "no, it's a bad idea to begin with and you shouldn't try it." As ...
Shouldn't access to the hardware features be included in the cost of the hardware?
If you own (let's just say) 100 VC games, having to pay $100+ to let the library of games you already own take advantage of the advertised hardware features of the system you just shelled out $350 for really ISN'T fair.
I am begging for a sequel to The Legend of Zelda that doesn't do away with everything that made that game popular in the first place.
Wii U is aiming for near-Wii sales levels, and is weekly charting more at 2007 PS3 levels.
Nintendo doesn't make those sales predictions for no reason; they do it to appeal to their investors. If they don't meet those predictions, investors lose confidence, and that hurts Nintendo.
People think about sales and profitability as something that only pesky analysts should be concerned about, but it's not. Just ask the people at Vigil Games who are abo...
This isn't REALLY a negative article. Just trying to draw a distinction between the kinds of positive attention Wii U Direct got from fans and the kind of positive attention Wii U needs from the general population.
Aside from MAYBE Wii U Party, there aren't really any titles that were shown that answer to Wii games that sold lots of systems. Most of the ones we saw were follow-ups to lukewarm games that sold well, but didn't result in lots of Wii momentum.
Nintendo has been VERY deliberate about what they announce at these Nintendo Directs, and when they take place. I'm surprised more people haven't commented on the signs.
So it should cost me the same amount of money to get those features as anyone else.
Not $1 more in net costs.
I don't think this is the right move for Wii U right now. Wii U needs games with strong potential to be big hits in the market; MOTHER just doesn't answer to that.
I *believe* that all your Wii Shop purchases, when they transfer to a Wii U, must be tied to a Nintendo Network ID. At least, according to the ToS, this is required for all purchases you make through the shop on Wii U.
The GameCube listing looks like it's just one of the many systems they have in the database...but that's definitely a listing for a Wii U Virtual Console... Too bad it's unlikely we'll find any files just by digging...
You know, I never really thought about it that way, but one of the biggest barriers to me buying a PS3 for most of this gen was that I really wasn't able to enjoy most of its benefits. I didn't have an HD TV until the end of this year; I sure as heck wasn't interested in using it for Blu-ray (especially given the lack of an HD set) since I'd just recently started buying DVDs; there was really no viable way to play games online from my dorm because of the way the Internet was s...
I don't think Reggie is the reason why a Japanese video game company stopped seriously making games for their system over a year before the next generation console was released...
"im pretty sure nintendo is not gonna let it best franchise get a hit."
Super Mario World - over 20 million copies sold
Super Mario 64 - 11 million copies sold
That's one mighty Falcon Pawnch they let their best franchise take
There are legitimate reasons to have experiences that make you HATE any of the platforms, even if it's just a temporary, isolated hate that's centered on a specific feature or set of features or set of setbacks. (i.e., Wii's lack of a centralized online network, 3DS's lack of a built-in second stick, etc.), even while the platform has some terrific strengths otherwise. That's really the spirit of this piece.
I'm not talking about first-parties. I'm talking about third-parties.
Edit: Also, 360 exclusives objectively make up a bigger part of its best-seller catalog than PS3. Call of Duty actually dominates PS3's library of bests more than it does for 360 as well.
Top 20 for 360:
10 exclusives, 10 multiplat
Top 20 for PS3:
5 exclusives, 15 multiplat
