Who here is saying one console would be great for gamers, or is that your Xbot logic fail causing you to just not get it, as usual? If MS sells Xbox, that doesn't mean Xbox won't be around, and even if it did, Xbox wouldn't be the first gaming brand to go under just to be replaced by another company that steps in to compete.
The problem is, we get diminishing returns in that regard from MS. Gamers would take a temporary hit in my opinion, but I think it would be made up for by higher quality competition in the future once someone else took over Xbox and put out a decent system, or another player stepped into the console war.
As it stands now, things are just embarrassing. Someone should call a tko already the way MS has been stumbled and pummeled. From a consumer interest view, we're talking...

1)If MS is making a profit, then that is different than Sony taking a loss on PS3's, despite the similar price tag. In one case you are getting more value than what you are paying for, and in the other case you are getting less.

Uh, no it didn't. You're talking to someone that had one. It was better hardware (though more difficult to develop for) and about the cheapest blu-ray player you could get, but despite all of that the PS3 $500 price tag never "blew over." Most people just weren't about to pay that much for the system.
The momentum from their fall does seem pretty irreversible at this point.

It stood a chance, but Rockstar was too busy worrying about how they were going to sell GTA money for real money and nerfing the payout on missions to worry about fixing the stinking game and adding the content that should have already been in there.
