I see the point you're trying to make, but attach rate refers to the number of games sold *per* console. Thus the number doesn't necessarily go up as more consoles are sold--it could even go down.
The attach rate should go up as the console has had longer on the market (giving system owners more time to buy games) and more good games come out, however.

Get over it. I've ordered price mistakes 100 times before, and only actually gotten them twice: Once at Best Buy when I did an in-store pickup minutes before they realized the error and canceled orders; and once when they realized they realized the mistake when only a few dozen items had been sold, so it didn't cost them much.
There were undoubtedly thousands (if not tens of thousands) orders placed for this game. Are you telling me if you ran a business you would take the $100...
One thing the article DOESN'T mention: Sales of the 360 in Japan have exceeded lifetime sales of the original Xbox by 16% in just over two years. Sales are still poor in Japan, but improvement is a good thing.

Who said that graphics and processing power were the only things that defined a generation of consoles? The Wii DOES offer something new that wasn't available last generation. That makes it "next gen", albeit in a very different way from the PS3 and Xbox 360.

NPD data shows an attach rate of 3.86 for the Wii and 4.01 for the PS3. Extrapolating that to consoles sold means Wii software has outsold PS3 software 2-1. It also means it's sold about 2/3 as much software as the 360, despite a year less on the market and fewer than half the games.

Just because developers might prefer a single console environment doesn't mean it's going to suddenly happen. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have their own stake in the console wars and they're unlikely to cooperate. If by some miracle it did come to pass and the market stagnated there are other companies that would be happy to step in and offer innovation.
To who? Certainly not Nintendo. Not the millions of people who are playing and enjoying the Wii. The Wii is even selling more third party games than the PS3 so developers should be relatively happy.
The only ones that seem unhappy are the fanboys.
Considering Wii software has outsold PS3 software 2 to 1 I'd be careful what you say.

That means that Wii games have sold about 75 million copies compared to 36 million for the PS3 (over twice as many).

I keep seeing this argument thrown around, but the numbers just don't support it.

The Xbox 360 was being sold for a $50 profit months before the price drop. It's undoubtedly cheaper to make now, so they're still profitable. The Xbox 360 will definitely see a GPU die shrink and likely a console redesign in 2008 leading to even more cost reductions.
The PS3 is being sold at a $100 loss currently.

Why not just get off your high horse and stop being a judgmental butthead. Who's to say people aren't doing both? This game is selling like hotcakes in Japan, where obesity rates are very low. Apparently people are enjoying Wii Fit. You don't have to understand it, but attacking those that do makes you sound like a jerk.
I'm a fan of the Wii, but you really ought to count 80% of Wii Play sales as hardware rather than software. It's a $40 controller with a $10 game.
Shouldn't the people actually buying it be the ones to determine if it's worth $5? People seem to be enjoying it, so get off their backs. I doubt you would like anybody trying to tell you what you should or shouldn't like.
What makes you think Microsoft is sad? The Xbox 360 is going substantially better than the original Xbox, and at worst it has significantly reduced the Playstation's lead in the console market.
People seem to think the console "war" is winner take all, but it's not. The Xbox can be very successful even if it trails in sales.

The Xboxes lead went from 70% to 31% in one week? Something is fishy.
Wii Play is a bestseller because it's a cheap way to pick up an extra controller and game, particularly in regions that don't pack in Wii Sports. I don't really think it's fair to classify it as software, because 80% of its value is in the remote.
That being said I easily got $10 enjoyment out of the game. People's expectations are way too high. I mean, come on, it's $1.11 a game. What do you expect?
