The lighting effects are nicely done when coming out of the shadows back into brightness, though we've seen this before (GTHD, F1).
But to say that this is going to deliver more satisfying gameplay...it looks more frustrating than fun with the way the car reacts. Nothing "real" about it. Unless you go by graphics only.

Taking a closer look you'll notice that those are the only two out of each format's top 10 where the HD-DVD version has a better ranking than the Blu-ray version.

If "The PS3" (like it's a business entity) was "in trouble", they'd be getting rid of a lot more than 160 people!
This is probably just a restructuring / streamlining of their business model. Everybody goes through these once in a while. Heck, at our company we have restructures every 2 years almost. It's all about staying focused on your business goals and customer needs.
Anyhoo, I guess we'll find out more sometime.
