I followed DS for years, intigued by the imagery and prmise of the game. Now, I don't want to play it. I'm not saying it's a terrible game or anything like that. I don't know. I'm simply saying that I can't get on board with spending fourty, fifty or even sixty hours of walking from one destination to another delivering packages.
I'm also very skeptical of the reviewers awarding DS a 10/10 when matched against the written text of their reviews. ...
"Since he struggles to define the genre, we’re happy to help – it’s one in which a developer aims to make a feature film and then realises far too late in the process that they’re developing a game instead… and that it requires actual gameplay."
Hahahahahahaha. Gotta admit, that's a hilarious put down.
Please stop. Just quit with this bs about Kojima's genius. This is a stupid cult of personality.
When you say what I think of when I hear genius has nothing to do with who is or isn't a genius, all I can say is: it depends. Am I using the concept in a way that accurately reflects how the concept is used? If so, then yes it has a lot to do with who isn't or is a genius. I have zero confidence that anything I say won't be strawmanned when I read comments like...
@archangelmike While it's true that Kojima is not a physicist or a sculptor, that has no bearing on the issue at hand.
Neither does it matter if Kojima is "up there with the best game creators." That assumes that the best game creators are necessarily possessed of genius. We should also add to this the fact that Kojima is a terrible writer who produces convoluted barely comprehensible stories. If you took his scripts to a movie producer they'd laugh.
I don't get the sense from the rabid fans that it's hyperbole. I get the sense that they truly think he's a genius.
@fiveby9 "creative genius", once again, da Vinci was a creative genius, Kojima is not. No amount of caveats will change this. You're right: he's not on the same level as da Vinci. He's not even on the same level as Martin Sorcesse to use a closer artistic example. He just isn't. So please stop with this nonsense.
I'm really excited for DS but I don't go along with this idea that Kojima is a genius. When I think of a genius I think of Einstein or Leonardo da Vinci. If there is such a thing as genius those guys were it. Kojima is a talented and creative guy, sure.
I have been counting down the days to the release of DS for some time now. Rarely am I this exited for a game's release. I have watched the trailers countless times. My favourite is the 2016 trailer with Mads smiling at the end of the tunnel. That music gets me every time!
What a surprise, someone has an idea for something long before implementing it. I'm not even clicking on this desperate for clicks story.
Here it is. It seems pretty clear that some of these guys have contempt for the game and, I suspect, for Kojima too.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...
It was on YouTube. I'll find the link.
I was wondering how Kojima was going to handle the timing of the embargo. He is no doubt aware of the nay sayers out there.* This is a good way for Kojima to signal that he is confident in his and his team's work.
*Giant Bomb for example. Those guys have all but made up their minds. I do not not share their overly negative views.
I can rest easy knowing Naughty Dog won't be listening to this guy.
It's been quite the journey. From Norman Reedus crying on a beach to Mads Mikkelsen drinking wine in front of a baby in a jar. What did it all mean? Nobody knows, perhaps not even its creator: Hideo Kojima. A man at least as enigmatic as his creations.
I consider it to be the best in series. I still remember the day I caught a train into the city to pick up the collector's edition (I can't remember if it was called "collector's edition" tbh. It came with a book). I couldn't believe how well it played and how it looked. In late 2006 I was still playing on a CRT TV but, man, was it good. Then there were those tense interactions between Marcus and Baird but with a comical edge to them. I really loved that.
No wonder Kojima put Geoff Keighley in the game. His job will be handing out packets of Doritos.
Watching these videos has tipped me over into wanting to buy Gears 5. I've changed my mind on this a few times tbh. I'd all but given up on Gears years ago but this looks like an invitation I can't refuse.
I wouldn't want to play Cyberpunk 2077 on a console after hearing this. Sounds like it going to be a degraded experience for the Xbox and PS4 crowd. Such a shame.
Well, the gun didn't seem particulary helpful.
I can't help but feel Mads is a perfect fit. Keanu is a great guy, but wouldn't fit I don't think.
Ok, I'm really conflicted about DS now. Part of me says "no" and another part yells "yes."
