Please do not cheapen the meaning of "love story".
It's a good game. Heck, it's a great game. But a good story Halo is not.
If he didn't get Halo 3, he'd be really depressed and get sick. So, in the best interest of his health, his parents let him go line up for Halo 3. It's called preventive care.

Maddens Raiders is a moron, but this review is legitimate.
For any single title, not everyone is going to like it. What matters here is 9 out of 10 people like Halo 3, and one doesn't... which is better than, let say, Lair, for which 9 out of 10 people HATED it, and only one did.
So far, I have not seen anyone give it an outright bad score like the heap Lair had gotten.
So, this is legitimate. It's not a perfect score. So what? And 3 out of 4 stars...
I'm not sure if you're old enough to remember games like Star Flight or Baldur's Gate II. Those are 60-80 hour games. Half-way is still 30-40 hours.
I believe this franchise has never been ported to outside Japan.

The strangest thing is that I had never seen Kotaku and Ars Technia reviewed a game, let alone giving it a score. Yet they are reviewing Halo 3 right now. Hm.
Ars Technia is not a gaming site so its review score is not counted by either GameRanking nor Metacritic.

The "Mass Effect" story image is taken from actual in-game session, by the way. The screenshot was too dark, and I had to adjust the brightness, gamma, contrast, and sharpness, and it ends up looking like a pastel picture.
