What's wrong with using Dark Souls as descriptive term, it let's gamers know what kind of game they are getting into, which may not be there cup of tea. There is no genre defining title for those kind of hardcore brutal RPG type games. And judging by the disagrees most people share my opinion.

It's to easy for console live services to catch those programs. It might be a thing for a week or 2 and then it would get shut down. Sony and MS do not want their services tainted by hackers and cutting their sales. On PC it's up to the devs running the servers and whether they care enough to stop it or not. That's why paying for the online service has benefits
I think most gamers are content with their respective ecosystem being closed. I'm not a technical genius but I would think it would cause more issues to arise. And the fact that players on your respective consoles are like minded about the games they play. We all know Sony and Microsoft cater to different gamers and playing with like minded gamers seems like its far more important.

Overwatch and Smite are some of the most played games on Xbox so free to play mobas and hero shooters are popular but Cliff B has a long history insulting Xbox and it's fans so I doubt he will be well received with the hardcore audience. The game should be solid though he's never been one to release crap
