Let's be real here, most people that are gonna build their own custom gaming rig and try to get the absolute cheapest deal they can, are probably going to "acquire" windows through the cheapest means possible. LOTS of people pirate Windows.
Windows aside, it is very possible to run games on Linux with wine. So if one is too honest to pirate windows, they always have the option of using Linux (albeit while sacrificing ease of use and compatibility.)

I know pirating is evil and all that... but when it comes down to it, it IS our most powerful weapon against big gaming corps and their retarded decisions like this. I don't even care about better graphics at all. The game already looks amazing. (Except for upgrading the "standard" cars to premium). I just want the tuning capabilities of NFS, and better SOUNDS. Has anyone here ever driven the 1970 Charger in the game? It sounds like a bloody diesel or something...
Upgrading ALL the standard cars to premium might be a fairly tall order though, so I wouldn't mind if half of them were still standard...

'It's too hard"? Bullcrap! How is it that other developers make PC ports then?! I don't care if they made their own engine, it's a lame excuse, and makes them look bad in comparison to other developers. This makes me angry, because PC's are vastly superior to consoles now. I actually have to agree with mini101 somewhat, I never really understood why people want to play these intense action games anywhere other than at home. I'd much rather play a nice RPG, or some other game that doesn't require my full attention, on the NGP.
