Phasing out the 20 GB model futher alienates whatever consumer base a cheaper model would bring in. When most consumers (non-tech savy folks) compare the systems, the first thing they'll notice is 360 20 gig is $400 and the 20 gig PS3 is $500. The PS2 has a 112 million system installed base and still growing. The xbox only had 25 million. If Sony lost half of their installed base with the PS3 they will still sell 60 Mill. The GTHD demo released christmas for the PS3 is not a working version of GT5 but a HD version of GT4 for the PS2. This is the Demo Polyphony showed at E3. This is what GT5 might look like now but this is nothing more then a HD version of GT4. and the game looks great and plays great, but its to real for my taste. I perfer games like NFS, burnout and motorstorm.
If i had the money i would probley have a setup close to yours, but not as crazy. But on the console itself sony is not making a profit and is acutally selling them for 3/4 of what they cost to manufacture. MS did the same with viral advertisements. So i can see where your coming from but at the same time for $600 look at what you are getting. Now for $400 the 360 is a great gaming machine but it doesn't include some of the functionalitiy that the PS3 has out the box as you need accessories to do so. The PS2 as far as a gamer platform gave you so many game to play that were not just for the main stream. When the 360 launched, the system was rushed, but it was the first to hit the market. What did the 360 have to contend with? Nothing. IT only had the gamecube and the PS2 to compete with. But everybody had a GAmecube or PS2. Thats why MS Rushed the launch for the 360, so it would not have to compete with Sony or Nintendo directly. ...

There is no way that the this model (if it even exist) will be cheaper then the model they have now. It's just to big of a difference between the two. You get an HDMI (which MS says was not even needed) a way bigger HDD and a change to the acutal core of the machine. MS just now started making a profit per console sold and they should not cancel that out by making a new machine. All that is needed is a Bigger HDD and that is all.
