The publicity Sony is getting from this is more than there marketing team accomplished last year.

Because in order for a new ip to survive they have to sell allot of games and in order to sell allot of games they have to beat the competition -_-
Competition is also good for us the gamers so if Watch Dogs wants to win our hearts over GTA they have to bring there AAAAAA game and rove that they are worthy.
Edit: @ Logic - Saints Row 1 sold well becuase it was the closes thing to a GTA game on the current gen.
SR2 sold well but it did not eve...
PS4 it only does everything...except play used games.
All jokes aside I hope this patent gets rejected by the patent board to show Sony that its a crazy idea.
Hopefully they did not spend too much on R&D to develop this technology that will block use games because no one is happy with it.
I am really curious as to why Sony filed for this patent last year and if they are really crazy enough to use it.
So Sony is playing with people by filing for this patent...what if it gets granted, it will be there for Sony to use for future devices if needed.
Regardless if they use it or not it still makes them look bad for actually thinking of this and having there R&D team work on the tech for this and file a patent for it.
If this gets granted someone should start a kick starter to buy this patent from Sony and then sign a legal document that bluntly states that ...

You do realize that all 3 companies made a big profit this gen and will release a next gen console right. At this point it does not matter who is number 1,2 and 3 as both companies have reached there goal which is to make a profit and not to make console fanboys happy like some people believe.
Well said - the same thing happened this gen with MS getting a bunch of exclusive games for free, I remember playing Saints Row, Dead Raising , Bioshock and Mass Effect on the 360.
Who release first is a smart move because it will get free time exclusives and also if a new ip becomes popular it will be associated with that console brand.

I want Sony to know that I hate this idea. Sure, they might not use it. However, I want them to know that this is not okay with me at all before they try it. If they are exploring this technology, they need to know right now what kind of outrage it will cause.

I have a feeling that Sony will go through with this but only implement it on 1st party exclusive PS4 games - they will probably offer some incentive like $20 off or something.
It means that if Sony does go along with this crazy idea they will have to file for bankruptcy becuase I do not think any sane gamer no matter how loyal is down with this..

Edit: I remember when the PSP Go was leaked and people found out that it would only do digital games, the response was negative but Sony still went ahead with it but ended up paying for it.
