Having bought a PSP, I can safely say that the VITA is the superior product in every way. Also, buying UMD's is just a silly investment at this point.
I don't have a ps3, so why would the developers assume that of me when I buy the vita version of the game? The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off.

Square's Eidos division is publishing that new Lara Croft game.
Lara played a big role in the success of the PS1. Heck, throw in a level mash up from the new game with some other world in PS.

If you do not want to spend gas going to gamestop, walmart, etc, at launch day, you can pre-order on your US PS Store right now to redeem the costumes and your VITA version for free.
My local gamestop allowed me to just put down any $ amount and I could still get the exclusive outfits (when I come to the store and pay the rest).
No way I will not get something free when I was going to buy the game anyway.
At least I will be able to spend some of my extra cash toward buying the game.
This month, I have been spending money on quit e a few vita games.

Even if someone like you does not like handhelds and VITA could have great hh titles, all the free/low priced content you get to have on VITA is really good.
Stuff featured on VITA like cross-play and Playstation Mobile will let you play "cross-content" on PS3 and on a Android tablet/smartphone for PSM.
So there is a fairly low investment, high reward route you can go by putting down the $200 now on a vita.
