But, correct me if I'm wrong, the recent Fortnite cross play beta is the first time all three major platform holders (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo) have allowed players to play together across one game? Including PC? That's why this feels 'new' and a big deal.

I think the advent of fully implemented cross play, and Microsoft's recent studio acquisitions, will encourage all the major platform holders to double down on exclusives. At the same time, third party stuff can thrive because the player base isn't split between different hardware. It's literally the best of both worlds.

Conceptually, yes. But this is the first time in videogame history that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have allowed gamers to play together across any of their current hardware. That IS huge, and definitely counts for something. I don't think it's blowing it out of proportion to say that this will have a tangible impact on the industry at large going forward.

Absolutely. I think of stuff like Laser League, or the Xbox One version of Star Wars: Battlefront... if matchmaking pools were shared, they could have found a new lease of life.

Apparently it has to do with a major financial investor suddenly pulling out. But if the company was on such a knife edge, surely it's their legal and moral obligation to communicate to their employee's? The whole situation is a mess.

It's certainly ripe for an HD remaster...

I literally couldnt agree more, with everything you just said. Red Faction was an absolute classic for me 'back in the day'. I think what THQ are doing is really smart!

Spoiler in the article headline. Brilliant.

No. That's a LINK to a website :-)

It feels like a sideways step. Their have been countless solutions to lighting design (most of which are much less performance hungry) that makes all the effort and noise around raytracing feel redundant. I'd rather they refocus their efforts on physics simulation.

Totally understandable. It's def worth investigating Xbox Game Pass though. Great value.

This is spot on.

Jinger - you're absolutely right. But the trend definitely leans more towards visuals, which is a shame.

You do know I was being sarcastic, right? Well, if you didn't before, you do now. WINKY FACE.

Also, if i can address your insanity for a moment, being critical of one thing doesn't automatically make me a fan of the other. You know that, right? Just for full clarity, I'm not being sarcastic here... Ok now I am. ...

I literally couldnt agree more. Destruction tech and physics are both in desperate need of improvement. I feel like the focus is on making it pretty, over improving our interaction.

Yep!

Definitely didnt enjoy the presentation, but Game Pass / backwards compatibility are both rad. Any announcement about either of these is interesting to me, and they didnt even have that!
