I love my Vita, but there's only one way that a new Sony handheld would work:
Make EVERY PS5 game compatible and Cross Buy but with the graphics scaled in the same way that PS4 and PS4 Pro does. The full experience is on PS5 and a stripped back version on PSP3.
That way, you tick all the boxes:
- software support
- on the move playing
- home/mobile hybrid

I keep seeing people repeating the mantra that PlayStation life cycles are 6 years and using that as "evidence" that PS5 will come out in 2019. This is incorrect.
Each PS generation has been longer than the last.
PS1 = 03/12/1994
PS2 = 04/03/2000 (5y3m)
PS3 = 11/11/2006 (6y8m)
PS4 = 29/11/2013 (7y0m)

Let Xbox 4 have 2020 with mixed response and no big-hitters ready from their new studios yet. Then Sony can sweep in with PS5 in Spring 2021 to mop up.
I have mixed emotions about PS5. On one hand, I'm lapping up every whisper and rumour (seriously, full native BC? Please be true!), but on the other hand I'm in no rush. PS4 still has a raft of undated upcoming releases (all of which look stunning!) We don't actually NEED the PS5 any time soon.

I have all my old consoles. None of them are set up due to shortage of space/plugs/connections.
I'd love to play my old games but can't be arsed with the unpack/setup faff.
For me, BC would be a godsend.
Also, if PS5/XB4 is to be the last gen before streaming takes over (which I hope never actually happens) then I'd love PS5 to be able to play the full legacy of PlayStation's history. In one box.

Yes, Sony had BC on PS2 and the first wave of PS3, bit then they abandonned it.
MS never had BC on the 360 and only took it up as a new weapon against PS4 - and they've brandished it well. Although I don't like the non-native aspect of the XB1's BC functionality, it IS a big kick up the behind that Sony needed.

If PS6 and beyond moves to streaming only, I'd like PS5 to be a single device that plays all legacy discs and digital content.
I still have my PS2/3/4 but I have neither the space nor available connections to plug them all in, so the older consoles/games get abandonned. I still have PLENTY of PS3 games in my backlog to play and I really hope that PS5 lets me play them (but with the same rest/resume functionality that PS4 allows).
I hope all this speculation isn't building me up to a massive disappointment. I'm now expecting full native backwards compatibility with all legacy platforms (maybe not handhelds).

Always annoyed me that A-Z sorting was missing.
They widened it to stop people's thumbs bashing together in the middle. IMO the DualShock4 is the greatest gaming pad I've used (apart from the battery life and the peeling thumbsticks).
