It is mainly there to kill people. Also on the customization tip, you can customize your Fable 2 character a ton. What is the problem with outfitting him with a gun? There are plenty of guns in Fable.
*EDIT* Multiplat owners....milking.....what? You mean ps3 owners. People that own both console wouldn't complain that they get more fun content from an already fun game. Only a strick ps3 owner would have problems with this.

You don't need the limited edition. You can still get the rifle in the dlc. You just can't have it match with the hal outfit

*edit* Not worth it? A whole new area to explore for $10. Sounds like a great bargain. New content, New missions, 1/6th the price. Yeah that sounds terrible. I guess it isn't as terrible as $10 for costume packs. I am sure you are having fun with those though.
