You missed the $5 sale. They change daily. I bought it for 10 a few days ago, & have no regrets.
Awesome. Hurry up & get BoGT out, too.
Yeah, when the game first came out, it ran like crap, even on my i7 920 rig.
Now, though, it runs smooth, looks far better than the console versions, & has some pretty great mods.
Personally, I didn't mind them scaling down the insanity a bit, but I understand why a lot of people were irritated that it wasn't more like the previous entries.
I still found the game to be very entertaining, &...
Red Faction Guerilla & GTA 4 are the ones I have issues in.
Dirt 2 looks great in DirectX 11.
Batman: Arkham Asylum plays great, although I did like PhysX.
Any open world game I've played has had framerate issues, though, particularly when I'm aimlessly driving around destroying things.
I don't get it.
I realize how powerful the card is. All I can think of is that it may be a compatibility issue with my EVGA X58 3 Way SLI m...
Even with a clean Windows 7 install & the latest drivers, both 5870s I've owned haven't performed up to snuff in some of my favorite games.
Sticking with Nvidia.
Thanks, man. I'm curious to see if something else is the problem.
I've reached my comment limit for this article, but I'd really appreciate the info.
What's your rig?
EDIT:
Ah, so you're running an AMD rig. I typically prefer ASUS mobos, as well.
Thanks for taking the time to check that out, man.
I'll give that a shot.
Yeah, I'm considering selling my 5870, & just waiting for the GTX 380.
March seems like a long time away right now, but in reality it'll be here before we know it.
Nvidia has always delivered stable & high performance for me.
I'll pay the premium price for a 100% working graphics card.
These drivers actually seemed to make performance in Red Faction Guerilla even worse.
Framerate drops happened not only while driving at high speeds, but while running around in firefights.
Has anyone else played this game with a 5870?
Or GTA 4?
Is it possible it's a compatibility issue with my X58 EVGA 3 way SLI MOBO?
It runs fantastic on my GTX 295, just like it did on my GTX 285.
I'm pretty underwhelmed with the 5870, with the exception of Dirt 2.
Hopefully I won't get those annoying framerate drops in Red Faction Guerilla & GTA 4 anymore.
I have 2 5870s & a GTX 295.
Although the 5870 benches great in 3DMark Vantage, it has regular framerate drops in many of the games I play, such as Red Faction Guerilla & Grand Theft Auto 4.
Both the HIS brand & the Gigabyte brand performed identically. While games like Batman:Arkham Asylum & Left 4 Dead played fine, open world games seem to struggle to maintain a decent framerate while driving around at high speeds.
Dirt 2, on the other ...
...who has only seen one pair of boobs.
I managed to get 2 ATI 5870s on that site within 6 days because of their first come first serve policy. They also treat customers great, & offer free shipping on practically everything worth buying.
For some reason I can't get any orders to go through on D2D. I bought 2 games from them in the past with no trouble, but for several months I haven't been able to get an order through. Disappointing.
Not even. It's not equal to a GTX 260, much less a GTX 285.
Lucky Europeans.
They're listed on both Newegg and Amazon. On Amazon, you can prepay for one, but it's listed as not shipping until after Christmas.
I have 2 GTX 295s in Quad SLI, so I will just hold off until Spring, when Nvidia's new cards are in decent supply.
Count yourself lucky that you are only banned from live, & not serving time for theft.
200 bucks for a replacement is chicken feed, considering the ratio of cost to entertainment it provides.
This is a no brainer. I paid 40 bucks, & got the first 2 for free along with it. Good deal, but I'd have loved to pay $16 for it. BTW, it's 16, not 15.
Possibly on the control front, but I'm probably going to end up paying a whopping 8-10 bucks for it.
It'll look at least as good as the DS version. Have you seen Dexter for the iPhone in action, or Hero of Sparta? The iPhone 3G in particular has some impressive graphical capabilities.
Not to mention the convenience of it being on a device I already carry everywhere with me.
I cancelled my preorder after playing the demo. It wasn't bad, just not worth a day one full price purchase, in my opinion.
