Could be a good game, Could be not a good game. I mean all we are working with here is press release type stuff. Positive spin at all costs on press releases.
I applaud the Gears Team for the work they did on their first title and I will for the next title as well. Epic does good work and Cliffy has made them a horde of cash with Gears 1.
That said until we actually touch the game or at least see it - it will be hard to evaluate. Epic has made bombs in the past (...
Speaking as a Developer: The event is for developers to learn and is not meant to be a news conference.
Sony made a mistake last year by turning it into a news conference. I was glad to see this year they avoided making none development related announcements till after GDC.
Valve has to ask for those dev kits. They are not expensive (anymore) and Sony is great with helping with coding issues now. Their toolset is much improved (and in some eyes better then the x tools now).
Sony has been actively dessiminating programming techniques to any and all who care.GG, Insomniac, etc all have been helping out with tools and programming help.
To see a picture of this... look at what Sony has done at past GDC
PhyreEngine compiler tools...
Actually I totally agree - a Bad port should not be made.
just one thing though
Kojima has said it will never port
Valve said it is possible to port...
PoG are you just that blind, or is it that you feel that anything working on the competition is a threat to your way of life?
Yes the PS3 can run it - the question really should be whether a port would be a good idea or not.
Generally not a good idea if it wasn't design for Asymmetric Multiprocessing to begin with.
Symmetric to Asymmetric redesign is complicated but the reverse is much easier.
A bad port is worse then not having the game at all. My...
well one thing Consoles don't need to worry about is having resolutions greater then 1920x1080 and framerates that are not locked
PC users will fight to have the max resolution possible and framerates in excess of 100 or so if they can
Console developers are limited to broadcast resolutions and aim to beat broadcast framerates
that is - anything better then 30 fps and with a max resolution of 1920x1080 is enough.
Should be relatively cheap
original game was 10$ and the expansion 5$
I hope they release them together for approximately 12$
Very Cool of a company to do things like this.
Sure it may be for their PR image but doing good even for the wrong reasons is still doing good!
Finally - the media actually interviews the right guys - Matsushita Electric Industrial Company rather then Sony.
I have troubles believing that they are having quality control issues on Sony slot loading Blu-ray drives...
You would think that the slot load drive that is used in the PS3 would be of sufficient quality to be used in Macbooks. If it isn't good enough for the laptop it would not be good enough for a console due to the fact a slot loading mechanism in a console is used significantly more often then it would be in a Notebook.
I admit I would love to see it released as one in NA and EU as well
I would be a first day buyer!
Hmm, This is yet another sign that the TT takeover by EA would be the end of a era...
If Thompson thinks something is good - there is something very wrong with the whole thing.
The prof does make a point... About the lack of imagination.
Games like Army of Two don't really bring anything new to any genre and don't really change how we think about games.
Games to really stand out now need to bring something new, something exciting beyond just FPS/TPS and online play.
He is also right that it is easier to localize a violent game to worldmarkets rather then humor or other types of games.
Humor has never translated well - some c...
not just possible
100% likely as they just posted this on the source website:
----------------------------- ------------------------------- --------------------
Update: to everyone that saw fit to email in: yeah, it's a joke. We know. Needed more sarcasm smilies, huh? Hey, it's Friday afternoon. Go get a beer or something.
There is also a "VERY" limited edition Canadian PS3
A nice red colour.
If you bother to read the article - this is their summation:
Graphics: Great art design, and the PS3’s graphical grunt looks
super.
Sounds: Everything sounds as it should, although a little
monotonous.
Control: Non-standard control system that gets the job done.
Gameplay: Good level design and combat, let down by poor enemy
A.I
Verdict: It’s not a classic, but you’ll definitely have fun!
...
This is the reason developers generally use PR people now.
1 misstated phrase and people put their own spin on what is said.
Ever wonder why companies like Apple, Sony, and Microsoft don't allow their developers normally to talk about their product?
(KZ2 being an exception - and even there on the Playstation Forums the developers have a specific list of stuff they are not allowed to address at all)
Wow... so a none certified accessory caused the issue.
I am so surprised, oh wait... I'm not.
he isn't argueing that there are no bad ports... He is just stating that a previously held belief is no longer accurate.
"The notion that PlayStation 3 ports are inherently inferior to Xbox 360 simply doesn't hold water these days."
Oo
what's with all the disagrees?
Just because I said a game can't be evaluated from a press release?
Isn't that logical?
