I believe the publishers put MS up to this. And now that it's announced, they're hiding in the shadows. I feel sorry for MS. It's not like they wanted all this bad PR.

Yes, in the end, I think it'll be worth seeing how MS provides tools that devs will be able to utilize in their work. Their projection of increasing the power of the Xbone to x3 might be lofty and a lot it will depend on internet speed and bandwidth. But ask someone 7 years ago to stream an HD movie with their internet connection. Most people would give you a funny look. So, if Azure is successful and supported and grows then yes, I can see improved game performance adapting to a grow...

By non-realtime processes, I was referring to static lighting, which is prebaked and background NPC AI which, according to the very article you referenced, can also be preloaded.

"Another known possibility for cloud computing is AI, not for direct interactions such as determining if an NPC should duck or shoot, but for background AI in living worlds like Grand Theft Auto and Elder Scrolls. The complexity of these games has always been limited to the console's resourc...

Azure was released in February 2010 to consumers. :/

Holy shit going from neogaf to N4G is like going from a university to a preschool. Gaikai's software is not built for offloading computations. The software is only used to stream complete games that run on a faraway computer. Much like we stream movies nowadays. Asking Gaikai to do what Azure does is the EXACT same thing as asking Netflix to do what Azure does. It just wasn't built for that. Azure was designed from the ground up for offloaded computations that don't affect r...

Whew, I had to dig a little to find someone who is actually making sense. Yes Gaikai is completely different than Azure. Gaikai is a streaming game company, one whose software is written to stream games, like one would stream a movie. Azure is a cloud based computational service that will offload non-realtime features such as AI, non-dynamic lighting, and multiplayer facets (Halo 4) to assist the local processing that deal primarily with real-time events. Do you have a link to the Dragon&...

Ugh, why do you have to run things in tandem? MS has already discussed a bulk of Azure's work in early applications will PRELOAD before the hardware kicks in. I don't know if you know this, but you need to look past your little fanboy goggles and realize that the Xbox 360 has even used Azure. That's right, chump, you can fabricate all the shit you want and lie to yourself with your little arrogant brain. The fact is, HALO 4 uses Azure in in-game processes. Don't believe m...

Goddamn your grammar doesn't even make sense. I don't know what grade you just completed, but I suggest you try again. Please delete your account tia.

Azure has been around for years and devs already have experience making hybrid applications. This explains how, since you sound like a professional developer. :/

7-10 years?? Have you not been reading about Google Fiber? (...do you even read?)

4624d ago 0 agree4 disagreeView comment

Didn't even read the article did you...
Certain processes that don't require high bandwidth can be offloaded into the cloud such as lighting, menus, terrain, etc. These things don't need to load in realtime. You don't need to support an entire game like Gaikai, just smaller parts of the game, allowing the local hardware to do the heavy processing.

Most homes have a dls of 6-10 mbps. This shows that an extra gig of memory can be used for cloud proces...

Please don't make stuff up. It really makes you look like an idiot.

Well the Wii did it. The Xbox did it with Live. The Dreamcast did it with internet play. The N64 introduced analogue sticks. "Great content" is based around innovation, not just a new IP. I know you're on summer break now and you're looking forward to being lazy in your parent's house for a few months. But just because you're lazy with your thinking doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. So fucking just get out.

Well, it's gonna take more than just games to win most people over. You better have game SUPPORT. I want to see something revolutionary regarding games, not just a bunch of games that will come eventually come out. I want to see gaming competition support, indie game support (I guess this is already debunked...), new genres added to the system (like MOBAs), streaming gaming from the cloud--like they better blow my hair back with E3. They have so much money from these Live subscription...
