Man. I was able to avoide mmo's for years as a console gamer. Within a month of getting the ps4 I have already started dcuo and downloaded ff14 on ps3 for the April launch. Now comes this and destiny. I am so screwed. I got hooked on dcuo instantly. Well, at least mmos r cheaper to play than buying 3-04 games a month.
I am super excited about this game. I know the story will be great. The environments look much better. The party dynamics sound like they r more in line w/ origins. I hope combat is like the first and simply more refined. Its great that they pull inspiration from Skyrim and the witcher but I dunno if I love the assassins creed additions. I couldn't get through far cry 3 b/c it devolved into take this tower, free this area, kill a few men and recycle. Its why assassins creed was having tro...
This why they have to take the route of swtor and dcuo. Establish a base, grab revenue and then eventually go f2p...with a paid sub for dedicated players. This is the new route. Its unfortunate b/c for the many that will play for yrs...often $15 a month is much cheaper than the forced microtransactions that will b put in place. Its all about endgame content though. If its action oriented with decent leveling and at least 8 months of endgame content...it will b good to go. And the best part is...
So was I. Also thought Diablo 3 would b sooner. Then I found dcuo. Its actually quite good on ps4...a ton of endgame content. And the servers work with the ps3. My first mmo and I am addicted already only a few wks in.
I have been waiting to play thiis on ps4. I bought for $10 on ps3 just so I could upgrade. I was hoping it would b sooner but we will get the new update too. It was gonna b my first mmo but I jumped into DCUO and now I am hooked. I love the action oriented combat and it runs and plays so well. I guess its dcuo, dark souls 2, infamous and ff14 for me this yr.
It kinda sucks that a paywall turns so many ppl off. Realistically even f2p mmos have a paywall if u want to experience everything. Now, there's nothing wrong with launching with a sub but they should giv 30-90 days free. If the game stands on its merits and has great endgame content, ppl will pay. The free months will act like f2p initially. The tough thing is that if they don't launch with a sub, then they will never have a constant stream of revenue. Most likely it will go the way ...
It would b a great program for vita indie devs to offer them psn also...launch on both. Those who own vitas usually prefer indies on their mobile but psn would offer a much bigger consumer base to help financially. I think overall, its been a good yr for indies but there's so many now that not everyone is gonna make it.
Love my ps4 and I am so happy that its doing so well this early on. But I have a feeling that it will really begin in March around tax season when stock is higher and Titanfall and Infamous release, along w/ many others. 2014 will b interesting. We will have a much better picture going through 2014.
I wish it was either like $20 and a monthly fee or $60 w/ 3 free months. I don't mind paying $15 if they r bringing this to consoles. But...content better come consistently. DCUO does a great job of updating and putting out 2-3 dlc a yr. Its f2p but much better for $15. Many ppl hav an issue with the sub but if u play mmo's...u r playing all the time. Most ppl spend much more every month on various games. Many mmo players only play that game the majority of time. Over a yr...it is muc...
Its time for Japanese Empire. The outfits and architecture will b amazing. So much intrigue at that time. It will b inyeresting now that naval has become such a big part of it. I love black flag...but I am curious why it was called 4 and not simply ac:BF.

I 2nd and 3rd dark souls 2. Nothing like stepping into that world for the first time having no idea what to do. Its one the most interactive games as the community works to figure everything out.
I didn't know rayman was coming to ps4 though. Kinda cool. And Infamous looks amazing!
In the new world economy, bankruptcy is just another step on the way to greatness. Remember, Sony is too big to fail....lol! I love Sony but the Playstation isn't their only device and Samsung is still kicking their butt elsewhere. Their smartphones aren't marketed well. All of TVs etc are more high end. And they just pulled through a tough time in which bankruptcy was probably 100%. At least for us, the playstations future looks bright!
"New consoles may be all about the exclusive games available for them...". I know many ppl think like this but right now I don't think that is the case at all. I think that ppl have chosen to go next gen as an investment in entertainment to come. I believe that Sonys success isn't riding on Killzone and Resogun but its specs and its vision for the next few yrs at least. First off...stop with the launch title absurdity. As if Forza Microtransaction 5 or more zombies is a reason for me to buy a console. I did pre order an xbox one and if I hadn't got the last ps4 at walmart, I wouldn't hav cancelled it, and I would hav been happy. But, not b/c of xbone's launch games. Really? Capcom isn't avoiding the west b/c of the US dollar. But, I do think that they see something in the mmo/f2p space. Deep Down could have been a dragons dogma 2 but instead is a f2p dungeon crawler. I do believe that we r gonna see more f2p and mmos coming to console, along with indies and less triple a games.
You missed my point. I DO think that TLoU, GTA 5 and Bioshock deserve goty mentions/awards and I feel that they r pushing in the right direction for triple A. Its just my opinion but I feel like they would deserve goty over gone home for example, if only b/c big budgets need to see what it takes to b successful.
Even they know its impossible b/c no one has any idea where we will b in 5-7 yrs. I always wondered though, since they chose not to make the hardware upgradeable this time, is it possible to release a ps 4.5, call is ps4s like an iphone. A few tweaks and upgrades and release it in 3 yrs next to the slim for $400. It would simplh extend the life and there would b a min/max for settings.
Greg Miller did a top ten list and Gone Home was number 1 but he mentions that as a critic at IGN he voted for TLoU. I think it is possible to hav a personal favorite but choose another game to represent the industry as GotY. Personally I loved quite a few games but only a handful, imo deserve the goty nod...and we know what they are. I do believe that we should have an Indie goty and also categories.

Is it a good thing to have so many different steam machines? I can't imagine trying to market these. Its all gonna get lost in a crazy shuffle. Its hard enough to convince console owners to switch or pc players to invest in something they already have. Maybe Valves machine can rise above the rest b/c of their stellar reputation but seriously, how the he'll do you convey the reason anyone should invest in one of these machines as a primary device?
