That just happened!

Would you have reacted differently if this came up BEFORE? I doubt it.

I think it's a good article, and it's something I've been saying for some time: companies need to stop blaming piracy every single time something in their company goes bad. Many times, it's what MADE the company "go bad" that enabled the piracy to begin with. It's amazing how many companies simply fail to realize that.

Or maybe they see that as an easy way to ...

1. He left the important part in there. The other stuff was just some amendments (and it's not like Sony never tried anything sneaky to try to get them off easier there).
2. The judge gave the plaintiffs 20 days to amend the charges if they so chose to. Means that between now and the expiration date, there could be some new things that Sony can't just motion to strike against.

"Geohot; I hope you suffer in prison."

HE'S NOT GOING TO JAIL BECAUSE IT'S NOT A CRIMINAL CASE! That's NOT opinion! That's FACT! You cannot go to jail on a civil case! It's not hard to figure that out! Common sense should tell you that!

Jesus, if we can't even get THAT part straight, then I don't know HOW we can even understand ANYTHING about anything else with this case!

"Go buy a 50 dollar original Xbox if you want to play emulators on the big screen."

Sooo...if you think it would be legal to run those on an original Xbox, then why the hell are you bitching about it being done on the PS3? You're being hypocritical.

You can't copyright code. If we did that, no one would be allowed to even use HTML, and the only people that would be allowed to make web sites are those that first MADE the code. This is something that's been said so many times on this site that it would sink in if you'd let it.

Secondly, you cannot find one single act of widespread piracy and cheating (that wasn't blown out of proportion by the idiotic gaming media like Kotaku) that was a direct result of th...

Yeah, the distributing and blackmail stuff was not smart, but it still does not give Sony the right to go to Gestapo.

As much as you or I may think that this guy had it coming from Sony, you can also say that Sony brought this upon themselves because they started to think they were holier than thou and think that they are above the law just because they have a ton of money. This could just alienate the general public and just turn the hackers on MORE!

5444d ago 1 agree11 disagreeView comment

Now it's SONY'S turn to get cocky!

And this place just amazes me! It just does! Too many corporate huggers and kids who have yet to see the shit the rest of us have over the years. Thinking that if you're a big company and/or have a ton of money, you SHOULD be able to do whatever the hell you want and bully whoever you want without consequence.

EDIT@TheObserver: 1. Reported for offensive language! I don't care if you think Sony is in the right...

Then why are you attacking me and some other people and some of the articles that bring another POV on N4G! I know I'm more, how would you say it...colorful, in how I say things? Because my anger stems more from what I'm seeing here with the "I hope he dies" BS and the comments that have arguments that the articles and the pro-Hot people have shot down a million times before. Yeah, the key releasing was not something that he should've done without a DAMN good reason (whi...

Thing is, I personally think we're getting too carried away with what Geohot did (I'm reserving my judgment about his key ordeal until we know why he did it, because I have my theories that are pretty complicated to get into here). It's a lot to do about if someone can separate the pirating and cheating parts from the homebrewing stuff. Some people just want ALL of it completely shut down, and I don't understand why homebrew has to be punished and be put in the same group as p...

If Sony would've been more honest about how piss-poor their security team was, we would've never had this issue to begin with. Seriously, they found this hole in 6 months or less, yet whoever Sony has to make sure those holes aren't there didn't see it for three whole years and then some? I find that hard to believe.

5445d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well, they obviously need a new team of security experts to look for the holes because the ones they had for the past 3 years apparently suck ass with the way they overlooked something that Geohot's team only needed 6 months or so to find!

The part you quoting seems like more of a mistake of wording on the author's part. He meant piracy of someone else's work shouldn't happen. If it's something YOU made yourself, you have the right, within the laws, to say what people are allowed to do with it, provided that your terms do not infringe on anyone else's consumer rights (just because you can make the terms doesn't mean you are above the law, nor can your TOS/EULA be above it...making sure you can't trol...

And yet, most of the posters here are doing EXACTLY what the article is saying is going on here, and are using the same exact arguments that the article brought up!

Yeah, we're getting nowhere fast reading most of these N4G comments!

Hey, it's YOUR choice! Sure, you'll live with the consequences of the actions, but it's something you decided to do. Not exactly the SMARTEST thing to spend your money on! If someone nukes your site, you won't get that money back, but it's a consequence you did yourself. Of course there's a right or wrong, but again, what am I going to do to stop you? The Hots v Sony case is an argument over what is right and wrong, so you can't really say for sure what the limits ...

How about this: donate to who YOU feel deserves your money instead of letting someone else dictate who you should give it to! It's YOUR money, after all! You shouldn't let anyone else bully you into going one way, another, both ways, or any way!

If you want to donate to Geohot, then by all means! You don't have to justify that at all (can just say "I felt like it"). Doesn't disqualify you from anything other than the money you parted with.

Seems like Jaffe is taking a neutral stance on it, saying that IF he did break any laws, he should receive the same treatment that anyone else would if they broke the same laws. I don't think he really made any judgment on whether or not he WAS guilty of anything.
