"Yes, personal information should have been encrypted, but the real criminals in this dilemma are the hackers. Period, end of story. There is no reason why the media should give the hackers a free pass and go after the victim."

Umm...no one in the media is actually DOING this, though! I don't understand what you're reading to make you think that anyone actually IS! You think that by anyone calling out Sony, that they are absolving hackers of any fault? If yo...

Then you completely missing the point here!

He told people that they didn't ask for them to begin with when they actually did! The matter about storing them is after the fact. He lied, intentionally or not, to the people asking him the question.

If he lied about this, then what else about this situation are they not being truthful about?

It's a matter of keeping your story straight and being honest with your customers, and he didn...

The only thing I have an issue with in your blog is that you seem to put those that blame Sony into the 360 fanboy crowd, as if those are the only ones that are giving Sony the blame. This is not the case, and some Sony fans are calling them out, too. We get the part where we blame the hackers. We're not saying that we shouldn't (none of use ever even IMPLIED that, so whoever is saying that we somehow ARE absolving the hackers who did this of any fault is an absolute idiot who doesn&#...

Okay, you do that.

The rest of us will do what we SHOULD be doing: putting blame on BOTH parties for being complete asshats and negligent douchebags.

"He has much better grammar than most people here on N4G."

You have a point there, even though that's not that hard to do around here.

1. Can you PLEASE make this as a reply to mine instead of creating a new thread. Looks like you were trying to avoid me responding to this.
2. Not like I had to. I stopped reading halfway through because I couldn't really make out what you were trying to say. Spell checker next time, PLEASE!

I just think that if they would just get as far as saying that hackers and modders are two separate things, and have their fans, which I am one of, being able to separate the two and act like adults, which I'm able to do even though I fail to show that at times (I'll admit), then we can then actually discuss what we can do in order to allow us things like OtherOS and homebrew without the detrimental possibilities.

Thing is, Sony can never seem to allow themselves to w...

You're missing his point.

1. Yes, they DO need to be blamed. Read below for why.

1a. You're doing exactly what Sony is doing. You're taking everyone who has ever touched the PS3 in a way Sony didn't like, put them into a box, label them the bad guys, and lead its most extreme fans to the cliff, with their fans ready to jump with joy off the cliff. It's not them going after people who try to get our credit card information. Why is it that w...

Hackers are at fault for doing this in the first place, but at the same time, Sony should've handled this a lot better by informing us a lot sooner than they did, and not use the "they're ALL our enemies" extreme measure to describe hackers, modders, and homebrewers alike. Blizzard can separate the definitions, so why can't Sony or the people that are so willing to jump off the cliff when they lead them to the edge? Is it really THAT hard for Sony to act like adults?

I don't know how many times I've heard analogies like yours that have tried to make it sound like no one that has a job would ever be at fault or take responsibility for anything stupid they did that caused something detrimental to happen.

If the teller left the money on the counter, and I stole it, then I am the thief that took advantage of the situation (thus I'm to blame for taking it), but who's the idiot that was negligent enough to commit that stupid act...

You want me to give you guys an even LONGER wall of text than I'm normally able to give you?

I just wrote my own blog about this issue, but I don't think I could've said it any better than you just did.

I usually say my opinions with bluntness. Gets me in trouble sometimes, but it's the way I've always been when writing my opinion.

Still though, I think it's no excuse for how some people are behaving about this. I think it's within gaming sites' rights to call out those that need calling out, whether it be Sony, Microsoft,...

The hate is uncalled for.

That doesn't mean, however, that they shouldn't be called out if they deserve or need to be.

Hell, that's how we gamers get treated a bit fairer than we would be if the companies didn't get called out sometimes.

I get your point that Sony gets put through the ringer more times than they deserve to be, but sometimes, like with this and with other things in the past like the high price point it used to ...

I think the issue isn't just this, though. I'm hoping we can take Sony at their word, and I'm sure we probably can, but I'm skeptical still because, in my mind at least, Sony should've been more on top of this and not have this happen in the first place. I know that there's no way you're going to get every single hole that could possibly be there, but this many in this short of time, taken advantage of this easily is something I wouldn't be too happy about.

God, I'm a Sony supporter (as well as a Nintendo and PC supporter...I'll get back to you on MS;only said Sony because Sony's the subject here), and even I'M not buying into this "point the finger" routine that Sony has been playing. I'm not sure why so many just take every single thing Sony ever says at face value and lose all sense of sanity when promoting it.

And let's not start with what happens when you break off from the collective for e...

Without even the LEAST bit of a question as to why Sony is being so quiet about any detail of this, and why it took them THIS long to even get THIS out? You'd think we would be hearing about this sort of thing a week ago (when this first happened).

But it's been down since Wednesday, we heard about what was the issue (as a very vague explanation that left more than the normal "we can't divulge what others could use to their advantage" stuff), and now, O...

I would direct anger at Sony more for trying to tout its service as secure and then bitch for years when someone catches them with their pants down without actually pulling them back up until after the fact.

Blame the hackers if they really are to blame, but not at the expense of absolving Sony for any fault here. They (Sony) should've at least been more transparent that they kinda fucked up and wasn't honest about possible security risks and how their only recourse w...

Because Sony would ALWAYS be transparent when it was their fault, right?

Jesus, I've owned and loved the PS3 and have been a Sony supporter for a LONG time, but I'm not THIS gullible!

If hackers are to blame, then we should blame them. At the same time, perhaps blame should rest on Sony for trying to tout their service and system as something it wasn't and then try to sweep shit under the rug and bitch all over when someone finds out about it...al...

I would also hope, though, that people could see just how much his mouth has brought some rather bad publicity towards the company. CoD cannot be Activision's only major franchise, Kotick needs to stop flaunting how greedy he is, and he needs to stop insulting the companies that don't kiss his ass every single time he tells them to.

He might be gaining profits now, but how long until that catches up to him in the mainstream, if it hasn't already? That may be loomi...

Good God, HMX, get a clue about this.

TB:RB wasn't as well received because you have absolutely REFUSED to allow the tracks to be imported into other RB games, even when you have put everything that was in TB:RB into the main game by now, and you have ways to make sure people will buy the actual game (not that I agree with said ways, but I'm trying to make a point here).

Seriously, I get that The Beatles were this iconic band that should be put on a ...
