Final Fantasy is huge in Japan. The last FF game sold 5 million copies, half of that being in Japan. It only sold 1.5 million in NA, and less than 1,000,000 in Europe.
So give Microsoft about 300,000 sales of FF in America in two years, and a hardware boost of maybe 9%?
Seriously, its a big deal because Sony let it go, not a big deal in terms of impact outside of Japan, where its a Sony exlusive.
They have been working on it since they were bought, they didnt just start working on it. Winter 09 at the latest. I remember when they were bought right before Combined Assault came out(or right after). But they went in the dark and didnt develop new maps OR fix issues with SOCOM.
Now we know why.

Who honestly cares about gay a$$ Banjo Kazooie? Fable 2 is a niche title, so no one really cares about. Then theres Gears 2.

COD4, Rockband, Madden, Assassins Creed, Guitar Hero, GTAIV, DMC4, the majority of the top selling titles are on both consoles. The only games that you really get to play 360 that you can't on the PS3 are Halo 3 and Gears. There are alternatives for both those games (Killzone 2 and Resistance 2) but there is nothing like LBP, God of War, along with a host of top IPs like GT5,...

Gears does look better than the old Resistance footage, but its not in the same league as Killzone 2. Killzone 2 should look better, since its been designed to look amazing and been in development forever.
But Killzone is the best looking game period, and its on par with Crysis. Gears 2 has kickass gameplay, but a graphical powerhouse it is not...at least not anymore.
The 360 will always have a larger install base, until it doesn't. The larger install base isn't a selling point, and Microsoft isn't looking to show off how many consoles it's sold, its looking to create new revenue and sell more consoles.
