Your on a gaming site tell other people to get a life? Kind of an oxymoron isn't it?
Its not that its sinking its just below expectations. Kind of like if you were to watch a professional bowler get a say 280 score. By no means is that bad, but people expect them to get at least 290 so when you don't you get some flack. Kind of the same with Sony, since they did so well last gen people excepted them to do the same this time around.
In the words of well somebody, "Expectations are the mother of all F ups."
So I decided to do some research and find if you could indeed do a firmware update on these 2 players.
But first, I do love how you 3 above me got defensive. BR=Sony=industry new, somewhat. And it is kind of sheepish for them to pull this kind of thing especially for a player that cost 1200$
Anyways I found that the general consensus is that while you might be able to upgrade to some of 1.1 profile, you probably couldn't get all the bells and whistles. Of course ...

I never understood why developers made the game that has such high requirements. I mean most of the PC owners don't have the specs to run the game, so aside for the niche crowd who keeps up on upgrades, how many people will be able to play it?
Agreed though out of the bunch I liked Transformers the best,but thats not exactly the highest praise. Ohh and throw Fantastic Four into the movies that should have been good but weren't category. :<
Well its not really motivation its just simple economics. The main reason Japan has the best speed in the world is because all 150 odd million of them live in an area the size of Texas. So its very cost efficient to lay down the wires for the area size(This is also one of the reason our cell phone network is below par with most of the Europe/Asia). Enh this alone wont "blu-rays ass." Hell is could do absolutely nothing as far as the war goes. Or on the other hand it could be a tipping point. I'm not a marking or business major so I really couldn't tell you. And I doubt even the people in the field could.

Anyways truth is Digital Dist. will not take hold in this country unless the do some major revamps of our connection speeds. Their just to slow for this sort of thing. Now in Japan though were their average connection speed is about 6 times our absolute best...maybe, just maybe. But not here, no not in the US.
So I read a few "this player doesn't support 1080." For now I'll completely ignore than there pretty much isn't a person alive who can tell the difference when a movie is playing and also that most TV don't even support 1080p.
So lets say you own one of TV's that has 1080p and chances are for that TV you paid somewhere over 1000$ for it. Then you probably have a stereo setup capable of making your nice TV sound great, which would also cost a pretty penny. So now you ...

You got so many disagrees because while this is a gaming site in general any and sometimes all news related to the tech field can be posted. Thats the point of having an industry/tech/mobile tab.

So I pretty much gave everyone here bubbles, except for well you know who, for actually having an intelligent conversation.
Maybe in a few years though when HDMI gets better quality standards and a reasonable price there will be an actually reason to switch. Only real reason now is if you want to have 1 cable vs 5. Personally I could careless, its all behind the TV where I don't see it anyways.
I agree somewhat... While I do hate it when the game takes control over your character for too long, like in FF12, there is a great use for them. For one they advance the story and another they are be some very pretty eye candy. Remember in FF10 when SIN attacked the sea shore...my favorite CG scene in a game. Ohh and the "cut scenes" in The Darkness that played whenever a level was loaded was golden.
So if done in the right amount cut scenes can be fantastic, but sad...

Well in all honesty I think they will charge for it at one point or other. That is of course if the revenues from all the little things you can buy don't cover the server cost.
Though on the flip it would be great if this caused MS to make Live free and then we would all win!

For the most part an FPS is an FPS is an FPS. All you really try and do is make the presentation better than other games or do something REALLY different. Like Bioshock with its unique combat KZ2 with its very detailed environment or umm I got nothing for the Wii(just trying to cover all the consoles here).
