it's really a matter of taste and preference. i personally enjoy the tacticaly an d hybrid nature of ni no kuni's turn based/real time combat. switching out familiars and juggling party members is really intense and fun to me. it has its issues, but overall it was innovative and really exciting.
however, i can definitely see how people prefer tales' gameplay and xillia may have the best gameplay out of the whole series, imo. its fast, fluid and...
I would vote the same way actually. Ni No Kuni is one of the best JRPGs of all-time, not just in recent years.
I didn't review this one for our site and I don't know if that reviewer played Ken's Rage, but from what I have heard and seen of both games, I think it's really just a matter of preference. If you love One Piece, def play this one. If not, then you may prefer Ken's Rage.
Awesome feature for one of the most important games in the history of the industry!
Yeah more detail would have been better, maybe some information about *really* makes them different besides the setting and whatnot. It's tough to get too detailed and keep the list relatively brief, though.
Thanks for reading!
I never said the list would only be about console action RPGs, D3's console release was only a catalyst for the discussion.
This article was focused on only this generation of consoles as a year-range, so Diablo I & II were excluded :)
Tomb raider is a really well made game and a great reboot, but game of the year candidate it is not (at least in my book). I had a great time with the game, but it lacked innovation and real inspiration. When experiences like The Last of Us and (hopefully) Grand Theft Auto V that push the industry forward in terms of ideas and execution exist, it’s difficult for me to label a game that was marketed as a “survival” game, but actually ended up being just another action platformer (albeit, a pre...
Agreed, that's by far the best model, especially for something on consoles.
Yeah, that's from the presentation we got to see at QuakeCon. Looks pretty awesome!
Hey no problem, I just thought I would respond is all
I did that as not just a way to be informative, but because I thought it was necessary to discuss the justifications for past payment models in order to make my argument for why I think Buy-to-Play is the best value and quality. I probably did go a little overboard, but it helped me frame my argument.
Did you read the review? Seems like he played through it all, enjoyed the sense of humor and thought it was a really good concept. 60/100 actually translates to "Above Average" on that site, so it seems like a pretty appropriate score.
Funny you should mention that game, it's another of the author's personal favorites actually!
Nice list, I would be fine with any and all of these, especially Mega Man. The Blue Bomber needs to come home!
Interesting ideas, but:
1-3) It can't be a different Link, they have said it literally takes place in the same exact world and is a sequel to LTTP.
4) If they didn't care about stories, why would they have released the Hyrule Historia?
From a gameplay standpoint, true. I was mostly looking at the lore and timeline to see how (or how not) it fits in with everything else and it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, imo
Fair, I just wanted to make sure I expressed that the combat isn't fast-paced, a lot of the trailers make it seem that way is all. Not bad, just a bit slower than I prefer is all.
Definitely looking forward to the full game! A different writer, one in the UK, already has the game for review and he will be posting his review as soon as he can :)
English isn't his primary language and I thought I got all the edits. Thanks :)
I think that, given SE's recent track record, the biggest thing that should be on everyone's mind is: "Please, please, please, actually release this game during the console generation it's been originally announced for."
