It can't be an arms race because Sony doesn't have enough money. Their companies are not financially equal.

I got a email from MS at 3:48 am to complete my order. To bad I woke up at 6 am and missed it. I got all the way to my payment than it said it could not finish the transaction.
All it shows is that they poked the bear one too many times. Now they have 23 studios and after spending $7.5 billion they are not done yet. They are building a Gaming powerhouse. Hate if you want but, now they are going to be capable of put out much more AAA first party games for their console.

Playstation made $2.35 operating profit in 2019 and they can't afford to make moves like MS. They just bought insomniac for $229 million. If my numbers are right that leaves about $2 billion left. How much do you think they have to buy a whole parent company?
Why is that a bad statement? You would take it as a given that a nice generation system first party game would have a better frame rate than the same game on a last generation system as a base. Then it would have better graphics. With a game with so much motion higher frame rate would really be important.
Now the game that was billed as only capable on PS5 exclusive now is running the same frame rate as the PS4 version.

I remember it being thought of poorly and when I checked metacritic the critics gave it a 54. I remember all the bad reviews when it launched. 83 reviews 9 positive, 46 mixed, and 28 negative. User review was only a 6.4.
That's not insane. I remember paying about that for my PCs 225 GB SSD when they first came out.
How does it spit in the face of Xbox and PC gamers? They get access to all of these games at a low price. It's not MS job to worry about Sony gamers. They are not their customers. Did Sony worry about Xbox gamers when they bought ghost wire and Deathloop as exclusives for PS5? Isn't that a spit in the face of gamers?
Sony could only afford timed exclusives and MS could afford the whole company. No one is more noble than the other.

Sony acquired about 10 studios in the last 20 years. Remember they just acquired Insomniac. They didn't cultivate them. Why is " Cultivating" important if in the end it gives their customers what they want.. Games.

No way to know. Because we don't know how many were available. If the had say 500 ps5s and 1000 XSX for pre order that effects you narrative. But, at the end of the day why does it matter.
