The only disappointing thing I'm seeing so far is the lack of playable characters, and Lightning being at the forefront. I hope the Noel and Serah-ONLY thing..is only like..the first 5 hours of the game.
I speculate that he is also in Valhalla with Lightning. I doubt they'd kill Snow off. However, I think they're going to repeat XIII by doing branching character stories that in the end, all meet together.

She refers to him as a 大事な人, which literally means "Important person", which a much more ambiguous meaning than friend--although both texts imply that her and Snow may have not yet married.

I would like to see an adult Hope, perhaps playable. I like how his personality changed over the course of Final Fantasy XIII.

In my opinion? Linearity wasn't really FFXIII's biggest problem. There was absolutely NO variety. You will walk forward and fight battles, and the game never changes or offers anything new.
Developers were filling up PSP UMD's too fast. Type-0 being one of the first games that has to ship on 2 UMD's late in the cycle. each UMD held about 1.8gb. Giving developers roughly the same amount of size to fit an high graphical quality game as they did in lower ones :|
Square's biggest problem is losing identity. They see western developers are headed in one direction that's very profitable and they want to be apart of that profit.
That's understandable, but they also are failing to realize that unlike Japan, its more common for gamers to prefer variety--that gamers like both Eastern and Western styles of games in the West (Where as in Japan, trying to sell a Western game can be quite tedious).

You said it. The problem Square isn't just the management like Wada, it's that they lack the quality director's they used have. Toriyama first big Final Fantasy that he directed was X-2..I think that speaks volumes about him.
At the same time, if you look in Western culture, you have a lot of Gears of War Type Steroid bald characters with guns; consider that before criticizing Nomura.
Also note that the characters are meant to be attractive in Asian culture a more feminine look for men tends to be whats considered more attractive in their region.
So then why would his name change, hair color change, and Serah not recognize him? (she sees him after the ending of the game) that's..a pretty poor gut feeling.
Although I hope an older, mature Hope is playable character. I think that'd really be interesting.

To be honest, it seems like Versus XIII is trying to do the same thing. Square has been trying to move away from Turn based to a more real time system for years with Final Fantasy.
Type-0 is definitely a step in the right direction to staying true to Final Fantasy while evolving the series.
Feel like Final Fantasy 8 and Kingdom Hearts had a baby and delivered one of the best action RPG's judging by the demo. Truly what a 'next gen' final fantasy should've been.
Versus XIII is nice, but you should give this game a try. Type-0 is truly a real Final Fantasy game, and has been in development almost as long as Versus, but of course will be releasing first.
"Best" is indeed subjective.
Not everyone will say it's the "best", but what we can agree is that it's the most influential 3d Third person adventure game ever, and set the standard for 3D Sword Combat.
