Yeah but AAA games are like summer blockbusters.

In the film industry there are tons of popular movies that don't go heavy on special effects. Drama, romances, comedies, mysteries, documentaries and more are fairly lax with regards to special effects, and yet they can still pull in big audiences.

The general opinion with games seems to be every game released has to be able to wow us with AAA visuals, sound design, full voice acting, etc. Consoles in part...

Much to the surprise of no one ever.

I'm not a big fan of racing games, but I played a few burnout games and this would've been a terrible idea.

You need to be able to react quickly and precisely to dodge obstacles at high speeds, two things the Kinect is poor at providing with it's inputs. Furthermore, burnout always slows down for crashes, so if the Kinect controls fuck up and you crash you get a 5 second animation of your car getting trashed, which makes you even more annoyed since it was caused b...

I wasn't as clear as I should've been. I wasn't saying GTA IV was trying to ape these games, I'm saying GTA IV tried and failed to do what these games did well.

Saints Row has all the insane over the top mayhem anyone could want out of a sandbox. Sleeping Dogs was grounded in reality and used it's story and gameplay mechanics to tell an effective story of a person trying to be a good person despite being involved in organised crime.

GTA IV...

GTA IV was a bad GTA game.

Unable to decide on whether it wanted to go in the direction of Sleeping Dogs or Saints Row it tried to do both and we got a horrible mess that has the strengths of neither.

I disapprove of iron sights in DOOM...

Still, good to hear E1M1 Hangar again

Let me just change a bit of your quote for poignancy: "But when you think about the insanely incredible improvement Uncharted 2 was over the first one.. Can you just imagine how insanely insane the sequel to Uncharted 2 could be ? That's just.. Beyond imagination."

Then we got Uncharted 3, which I enjoyed, but it wasn't as good as Uncharted 2. There is no guarantee that a sequel will be better than it's predecessor, even with Naughty Dog.

Well depends on whether or not you're capable of playing the game so much and not having it become a chore.

In Korean SC2 for example the pros live in dorms and are practicing around 12 hours a day. Even though I love video games, I could never play a game to that extent without starting to tire of it.

BEHOLD THE LEGACY OF THE CONSOLE WARS!

It's not enough to enjoy the system or dislike it, you need to constantly be posting articles showcasing why your console is better than the other!

I mean MS did deserve a good raking over the coals for the Xbone reveal, but over a month after most news STILL amounts to "Did we mention MS and the Xbone sucks?".

The NSA bit IS creepy because the Kinect is a device that is always on and alway...

It's better than Oblivion, but definitely weaker than Morrowind imo.

Both Oblivion and Skyrim get credit for not making me fight Cliff Racers though.

Don't worry.

As long as you believe in the power of friendship and the heart of the cards, everything will conveniently work out the way you want it to.

Which of my assumptions wasn't supported by facts?

The one where I said the technology that made PRISM possible wasn't available until recently? If that's not true then enlighten me, show me the evidence you have that what I'm saying is false. A decade ago there was no Youtube, social networking sites like Myspace was just taking off, as was Skype. Not only technology itself but our very culture has recently become tied to putting pieces of who we are online....

This also kind of raises the issue of if this is a shared console.

If your kid is an asshole in CoD, then does that mean I get punished for his actions when I come home and play Borderlands? Is there any way to reverse this once it happens? If so how? Are you supposed to be nice to the trolls until they let you back in with the others? That'd be exasperating.

I do like the idea, but I'm still skeptical they'll be able to craft a robust and fair ve...

This could actually be a fun game if they decided to expand it.

You could have smallish levels that all have some big set piece you'd see in an FPS, and then have those levels be janitor puzzles of how to reach all those giblets in the level left by Mr Space Marine.

The game as it stands now is just a neat gimmick, but I gotta admit there is a lot of new and potentially interesting things you could do with this.

This system wasn't POSSIBLE a decade ago. Of course we haven't had problems before, because we've never been in this position before. We're running into this issue precisely because technology is progressing at such a fast rate that the law can't keep up, and EVERYONE is abusing that fact.

This is not an issue you can just ignore, and it depresses me how many people agree with the whole "Well if you're not a terrorist you've got nothing to fea...

The main issue I had, apart from the DRM, was that they removed pretty much all non-gear based RPG mechanics.

You can no longer allocate attribute points, and worse the skills are given to you automatically upon reaching certain levels.

One of the best parts about D2 was agonizing over where to put that shiny new skill point. In D3 you're given every spell and just need to put it on your hotbar. It ends up making every character of your class and level th...

Good list, but I gotta disagree with both Assassin's Creed 2 and ME2

Pretty much the one thing every single review about ME2 said was that the main story was weak. The Collector plot is basically a giant side mission that has no effect on the main Reaper plot.

The game's characters, and more specifically their loyalty missions, were where the good stuff was found, the main story was not.

In terms of Assassin's Creed 2, I can't...

That's the big thing. League of Legends whole balance is based around the amount of control you have with a mouse/keyboard.

It isn't that LoL wouldn't appeal to console players that's the issue, it's the fact that in order to make the game work with a controller you'd pretty much need to redesign or at least rebalance the entire game.

Pretty cool game from what I've played.

It's like a weird mashup of the whole RTS genre where I can be playing a Total War type game at one point, and the next I'm in a C&C type battle combined with the ability to jump into the fray yourself like in Brutal Legend.
