This is bad news. Why if Sony was going to come out with an update didn't they release it sooner? Sorry I already spent my last penny on items that will be shipped today and arrive before Christmas. Maybe next year...
because the PS3 still does not have any Blu-ray update to 1.1. If you didn't notice it's Christmas and Sony hasn't released an update that would sell more consoles than any of the others. That kind of announcement would give consumers 100% reassurance that Sony is dedicated to Blu. But here we are 2 more days till the 17Th AKA last day to order online and guarantee delivery before Christmas.

Why do you think he would say this? As I have been saying all along "Call Sony support and demand the update". Why do you think Sony hasn't released an update? Now (actually last month) is the time to release this. This would be huge press for PS3, why the wait?
No backwards compatibility. You know, that's what all the Sony FanPack said when the xbox 360 came out 2 years ago, but this time with the 40GB, it's a reality. No Blu-ray 1.1 or 2.0 support, and you can yell all you want that Sony is going to come out with this. Well I hate to say it over and over, but there is no update coming this year and if there was a supposed update, don't you think it would be out by now so all of us with cash in hand would flock over to the Blu-ray team? I keep seeing BLOGS about this incredible update. Until the PS3 gets the update, the gloves are off. I hope, for all the PS3 owners out there, you get your update and you don't get pawned. If Sony screws this up there will be a lot of people jumping ship.

The article states in 10 years. At that time we will have 3-4 TB HD in our PCs and our game systems should be up to 1TB drive space. So the space issue won't be a concern. It would be backup. Once drives get to that size, losing that much info would be devastating to the home PC users (apps, movies, games, and pictures).
The other real issue in my mind is how the companies release the movies with DRM. I want to watch what I purchase when I feel like it. So in this manor I agre...

You are so right, this war does suck. However as a consumer I want to make a purchase that is in my best interest.
