ME:A was not bad. I am still not sure where all the people crying about the story and writing came from. I played through Mass Effect 1-3 each game at least twice and in the case of 1 and 2 at least 3 times each and they were not exactly written by Hemingway. They were always built on well-established genre tropes, ham-fisted, over the top and at times eye-rolling.
It is unfortunate that ME:A did not do as well as they wanted and I have no doubt this was likely even more in...
I am nearly finished with Syndicate and have enjoyed the game well enough. As long as it is at least "as good" I am happy.
As an XBOX fan, I would love to have MS shut these types of stories down. I will continue to hope for that day. meanwhile Fable sits on ice and MS seems to do nothing with first party content outside of the Forza/Gears/Halo-verse. I would kill to see a new AAA Banjo Kazooie platformer, not a racer, but an actual platformer. MS has some franchises to play with, time for them to stop hedging their bets. Either get all in with their Xbox division, or sell it off or shutter it after this gen and ...
An argument can be made that both the Pro and X1X are irrelevant really. As long as developers are bound to the specs of the base systems, there is not a ton of incentive for anybody to really make the Pro and X!X version the definitive version. I think I would rather Sony and MS have sucked it up and just started the next gen earlier or just waited it out on the existing hardware. Part of me hopes the "iterative model" experiment fails.
Perhaps this will be the case for younger people. I fall firmly in the camp of hating mobile gaming. I don't game on my phone and my new 3dsxl is collecting some dust. I read when I am on the game and game in my home theater room or on my beast PC. For me this is pretty much always going to be the case. Best wishes to those who love gaming on the go, just not for me.
For a solo player like me, story is often the primary thing I care about. If the game is not very compelling, I seldom fight my way through it. Why I tend to stick to RPGS and the like. Dan is a great writer and I think he makes a great point. Sadly I am not sure if all gamers feel the same way.
I am not sure I understand the point here. One could argue that for the first 2 years of a new console's life cycle the power included is overkill. It takes years before developers tend to really bring out the titles taking advantage of the hardware. It could be over-powered, or MS could get off of their rear ends and make some amazing and compelling first party games that show what all of that hardware can truly do when somebody takes the time to optimize it. Now if they sit around and w...
I have always found statements like that, about popular and well-selling systems to be unfortunate. Perhaps another take would be that although the Switch has limitations of what it can accomplish, we are more than capable of designing titles for it. Fact is that in 2017, the tech is there to make fun and compelling games, even with the Switch's more limited capabilities. Developers have gotten lazy having all of that hardware to play with. They seem to have forgotten the days when they h...
I am not sure I see a reason for the average gamer to buy either at this point. Perhaps new buyers to Sony or MS will be justified to get the X and Pro respectively, but I am just seeing anything yet that screams "must convert my PS4 or Xbox One. Shoot if anything MS customers are more likely to upgrade just to finally have parity with the PS4 base system.
Well the pro by itself, certainly, but now with MS and Sony having powerful hardware, hopefully developers will get on board.
I would agree with, based on specs and preliminary reports from developers, clearly more powerful, but the superiority argument is premature. You have a known commodity, versus something in the wild, coupled with developers having zero incentive to optimized one version well past another.
See I am not sure why you feel the need to throw that out there. Many of us are excited for the X1X, but as of this moment, nothing has been confirmed to be "better" than anything. Until we see the final results and see software developers show an interest in optimizing for the new console, we simply cannot know the future. Even if on paper the X1x is more powerful, if the developers choose to cater to the less capable machine, have you "won" anything? If I am the greatest...
less of a pain to connect to your big tv, 4k more affordable as getting a good gpu and others specs, plus a 4k gaming monitor big enough to appreciate 4k can be a much high cost of entry, coupled with a console giving you typically 5 years of fixed stats and a pc, depending on your budget, going behind the performance curve on a regular basis.
Pobably could have stopped with not for me. Congrats, you have a Ps4Pro and you don't like MS exclusives, which begs the question why you feel the need to come here and declare it in this story. To each their own preference, but seems like you kind of wanted to throw some shade. Not sure I see the utility here.
That same argument would apply for the PS4Pro, and yet everybody accepts sony's statement that the PRo is an optional purchase. MS has actually said the same thing about the 1X. Basically every runs on your X1, but runs best of the 1X. What is so hard to grasp about that? I got my PS4Pro so that I could run newer games better. Just as I will do with the X1X. Shoot having parity with the PS4 in general will be nice enough. No more getting shorted on 3rd party multi-platform titles and havi...
I am not sure you grasped the entirety of what was written. more to the point, this is still not total science as Digital Foundry does not have their hands on the final hardware. It is a little too early to buy into the hyperbole for or against just yet.
well point of fact that article specifically shows and states cases for natural 4k in the games. Looks like the more effort applied, the more a developer will get out of the title. If you do it cheaply, then I am sure we will see a lot of faux 4k.
Also if every title MS optimizes or releases first party runs at "true 4k" then haven't they told the truth? I mean MS can hardly be held accountable if Ubisoft and EA choose to just make use of Dynamic scaling. Sho...
I would say only true in so much as you have developers interested in unlocking the full potential of the hardware. I hope enough people choose to really take advantage of the specs here, but fear that it will be a race to parity instead. At the least it will be an even playing field, which would be nice for once.
Sounds cautiously optimistic from folks that don't really seem to have bias, just a focus on hardware and capabilities. Now what MS does versus 3rd party will be a different matter, but I am not sure why anybody would decide to get nasty one way or the other based on this report.
Lol, okay, assume for the moment that the story was written with the best of intentions. How can you ever get a survey that will tell you the truth in an accurate fashion about this? If you interview 100 white 25 year old dudes and ask them if they think gaming and characters in games should be more diverse, what are they going to say? Only the most audacious troll actually tells the truth all the time. No, folks take these surveys and whether they believe something or not, whether they mean ...
